    Cryogenics

There are a number test labs dealing with cryogenics. Check places like Wylie Laboratories and Orion Propulsion. Also, NASA has several cryogenic test facilities (Marshall Space Center for one). I am sure there are many opportunities at places like these for a tech with your background. And they...

Mimic Physical Properties of Avaiation Fuel

I talked to our test lab guy about what we used in our old fuel test stand. In the ancient past, we used MIL-C-7024 calibration fluid. Because it became unobtanium, we switched to low aromatic Stoddard Solvent, more commonly known as zippo lighter fluid or dry cleaning solvent.

One of our customers has expressed interest in recieving CAD files in Pro-E format. We are not interested in investing in Pro-E for a single program. Are there any third party translaters out there to convert Inventor files to Pro-E. I would like to offer that as an alternative. Thank you.

430 stainless steel tested per ASTM E45

Thanks for the info guys. To reply to some of your comments: EdStainless, the leaks are generally axial, about a 5/8 inch from the part centerline. We have had a very few at the weld joints. FYI, I will be contacting your company about 430 tubing. We make a lot of solenoid housings from 430 bar...

430 stainless steel tested per ASTM E45

I am looking for a source of 430 stainless steel bar, approximately 1.5 inch diameter that, when tested to ASTM E45, Method A or D, must have an inclusion rating of 1.0 or better, (2.0 may be acceptable). I have been told by one source that, historically, the only way to achieve this rating is...

Flagnoting every print dimension - bad drafting practice?

Hey MeLeod, I think there has been a little misunderstanding of your problem and I may have a solution. The requirement for numbering each dimension on a print for inspection generally comes from the requirement for traceability, which is common in aerospace work. You must be able show that each...

    Welding of dissimilar metals

We weld this combination quite often. The low carbon grades (304L or 316L) create a better weld. We use only 430. We do not use 430F for welds. I know other companies use TIG and Laser, but we use only E.B. We do not use fillers but keep gaps to a minimum of .002". Parts also have to be...
