Have an existing W24x55 channel capped runway beam but must add A36 members to bring it up to same properties as a W24x76. How have you fellow engineers dealt with this issue. Add C's to the web, add bottom C ??
Thanks to all...
I agree also but depending on Railing material I limit deflction to l/200. I find it necessary to use a 3D frame anaysis program to model many railings and/or stairs. A railing post is not a flag pole, nor does it have to be designed as such.
I find StruCalc fast and well worth the price. The flitch beam design added is handy. For a fast, easy to use design, check of timber, steel, simple concrete footings, etc. I think you'd like it.
I've used Architectural Desktop 3.3 with Acad 2000 and found it does everything you're looking for. StruCalc just came out with their latest update and it now includes Flitch Plate beam designs and checks. Looks like you're doing similar work to me. Good luck.
Have you never heard of "Hairpins"? Wrap the rebar around the anchor bolts and out into the concrete floor at a 30 degree angle each leg. 12kips No problem.
Why don't you contact a few pre-engineered building companies e.g. Butler Buildings, Varco Pruden, American, etc. and ask what they were using in the 70's?
Good luck
