Do You Include ALL NUTS and BOLTS in Your Assemblies?

I leave out nuts, bolts, washers etc for two main reasons.. 1. It is a pain putting them in. 2. When you have a large machine assembly you start to see serious slow downs after adding them. I wouldn't bother putting these on a BOM either. In our case you just average out how many of these...

    Cutting Plastic

Hi, Just wondering if anyone here has experience of using a laser for cutting plastic sheets. We are buying a new laser (a LVD Orion probably) and it would be nice if we could do this. I understand that fumes can be an issue. Are there extensive ranges of plastics that can be used for lasers...

    *&@#$^ Configurations & Design Tables

I find using DT's very easy. Being competent in excel is also a huge advantage to DT users and opens up all sorts of possibilities.

    variable pitch helix

You can get advanced helix creation abilities by buying Geometry works. See the SW partners on the SW website.

    Hardware Spec For SW-2007

If I were you I'd wait for a couple of months after the 2007 SP0 release, until they get to Sp3 or SP4 before I'd upgrade. There are bound to be problems with the earlier SP's and you won't know if they are SW problems or PC hardware problems. I doubt the PC spec will vary much from release to...

    Design Table Limitations - HELP!

You get that error because the top left cell in your second sheet doesn't have the correct cell name. I am away from my pc at the moment so can't recall what cell it needs to be or what the name is. To find out open book 1. Look at cell A1, A2 etc and check the top left hand of excel and the...

    Design Table Limitations - HELP!

I have found there are two ways around this. First way is to wait until the release of the next excel version which give some huge amount of columns you can use. Second solution is to add a 2nd page to the excel sheet and split your variables between each. This way you will need to open the DT...

    Photoworks Background removed

That did it. Thanks Rockguy. Have a star

    Photoworks Background removed

If thats the case it is a major draw back of the software. It means that the graphic designer who is to use this will have to manually remove the colour from the background in Photoshop, which is less than ideal as it often removes the sharpness from the lines.

    Photoworks Background removed

Is there any way to remove the background in photoworks. I know there is a selection in scenery which says background none, but if i render to file as a jpeg the background is black. I have a graphic designer looking for the parts with no background so that he can place it on a layer in his...

    Photoworks

Ok. I have never used Photoworks much before so apologies in advance if this question is stupid. I am trying to render a conveyor. I am having trouble with the belt. I have set the belt to be a smooth blue plastic but when I render the file the top surface of the belt is grey while the underside...

    Rename Project in PDM Works

Is it possible to rename a project in PDM Works (2006 SP4). The project I want to rename is at the top level and has numerous sub projects underneath which I do not want to rename.

    SP4-bad experience

I got 152MB. I'll have a look through the FAQ but in general in future I will be very cautious about upgrading. I think you would really need to trial each SP on one pc for a couple of weeks

    SP4-bad experience

Hi there. I updated a few machines at work from SP3 to SP4 (2006) and over the days I found that there were a huge amount of problems. Opening DT's slowed down by 100% as did closing them. Many mates errors appeared where previouly they were not present. Then when I did an edit feature on the...

    Design Table Help!

Xtremeben. We seem to be approaching this issue in a similar method to you. I'll just go over again what we are doing. We make conveyor systems. We have 6/7 standard types for example straight ones, Curved ones, elevators... What we decided to do was to build a variable model for each of...

    Design Table Limitations - HELP!

CorBlimeyLimey - Can't do that either. Many of the parts in the assy have a DT of their own which needs to update using my 'refresh DT' macro (so that their links back to the master spreadsheet update). I don't want to run into a situation where I need the macro searching down more than 1 level...

    Design Table Limitations - HELP!

CorBlimeyLimey... Sorry it is my mistake for typing that. I only suppress/unsupress the components and not each individual mate. The reason I have so many columns used is due to the large quantities of parts which 'may' be used but often aren't. However, I have to design in a way that allows...

    Design Table Limitations - HELP!

Heres what I am thinking at the moment in relation to using the different sheets in the DT. Lets say we split the dimenions between sheet1 and sheet2. Which ever sheet is 'active' when the DT closes is what SW 'acts' upon. To refresh the links in my DT I could use my macro to open and close the...

    Design Table Limitations - HELP!

Almost. It is an assembly with more than 256 mates and Suppresed/unsuppressed parts. In fact, it is a fairly unique method of design I am using - not totally disimilar to drive works except free and excel based. Someday maybe I'll write a FAQ on it and post up the macros. That is if I can get...

    Design Table Limitations - HELP!

This one is giving me nightmares. Let me first briefly describe what I am doing. I am creating SW models of our machines which can be changed by entering variables in an excel spreadsheet. For example, we build some conveyors. There are 30 or so things that can change on the conveyor (examples...
