All fittings are 1/8". The original BSPT hole is in an engine block, and will be used to install a (new) oil pressure gauge. My only concerns are with heat and oil pressure from the engine.

Thanks, that's the answer i was looking for. The t-fitting is brass and the male end of the t-fitting is going into an iron block. Will i have any issues with heat if i use lock-tite or something similar?

What OS are you writing this in? To get beyond the limitations of getch(), scanf(), etc., you may need to use an additional library. On *nix systems ncurses comes to mind.
