I was interviewed by an engineering manager who asked a question something like this:
Material A is more expensive, per pound, than material B.
You need a certain volumes of either A or B.
Using the specific gravity of A and B (given), which material would be less expensive.
If anyone needs to know something about dimensional stability of jet engine parts, during the manufacturing cycle (distortion from residual stress, machining, peening, heat treat, etc), I have some knowledge. (and a lot of gray hair to prove it)
