Allowable Stresses, Sd/St for Titanium Tank

HTURKAK, Thank you for your input, if applying the Clause 5.6.2, Sd will be 16,000psi, St will be 21,000 psi.

Allowable Stresses, Sd/St for Titanium Tank

MJCronin, Thank you for your reply. It is API 650 tank, Design pressure: 0.1 psig. Dimensions ID 40 feet, Height 46 feet, Cone roof. API 650 doesn't cover titanium material, I refer the stress ratio from Appendix S, Table S2.b, and get Sd = 20600 psi. St=36000, B265 Grade 2 has yield: 40,000...

Allowable Stresses, Sd/St for Titanium Tank

HI, for titanium tank, material B-265 Gr.2, design temperature 261F, can we use the Sd at, 20,600 psi, it is 70% of its yield, 29,700psi? (ASME 8-1 has 12,400 psi). Thanks for any comments.

How to calculate Tmin for steel chimney in service for 40 years?

Thank you, WARose, I have the book, Tubular Steel Structure. It gave a critical allowable stress, about 40%Fy. In Compress, I use chart of CS-3, if the input thickness is thicker as nominal, Compressive stress (B) is higher (22% Fy), then Tmin is smaller. If input of thickness is actual one, B...

How to calculate Tmin for steel chimney in service for 40 years?

PSSC, Thanks for your time for response. I applied Compress to check it with original nominal thickness, Tmin is less than the measured wall thickness, it passed. If input of measured wall thickness, a thicker Tmin is more than the measured, it failed. This is different from the evaluation on...

What design conditions are required to calculate Tmin for steel stack in service for 40 years?

Thanks for your time for response. I applied Compress to check it with original nominal thickness, Tmin is less than the measured wall thickness, it passed. If input of measured wall thickness, a thicker Tmin is more than the measured wall thickness, it failed. This is different from the...

What design conditions are required to calculate Tmin for steel stack in service for 40 years?

Hi, Steel Chimney Experts, I like to know what conditions should be considered to calculate the minimum required wall thickness (Tmin). 1) Original wind code 2) Original nominal wall thickness, instead of actual wall thickness measured. 3) Original allowable tensile stress 4) Original allowable...

Area Replacement Rule, WRC, and FEA

Yes, it works. It is a better option than adding a repad.

Area Replacement Rule, WRC, and FEA

Thanks for all of your inputs. So I have to add a repad on the integral nozzle (HB type) to meet the requirement of area replacement rule.

Area Replacement Rule, WRC, and FEA

Thanks for your response! Yes, the existing vessel (built in 1975) with nozzle modification will be designed by ASME VIII-1.

Area Replacement Rule, WRC, and FEA

Hi, I have a nozzle reinforcement calculation. As per the UG-37, the area replacement rule, Aa < Ar, it fails, but WRC or FEA results pass. Can I use the WRC or FEA result for fabrication? Thanks.

    Impact Tested Without PWHT

    1. As per Note (b), Table UCS-56-1,no PWHT is required if preheat over 95C is performed. 2. As per UCS66 and 68: SA-516 Gr70N on curve D will have -26C impact test exemption temperature. if PWHT is performed, 17C can be credited, subtotal of MDMT will be -43 C(-26-17). If stress ratio designed...

    Impact Tested Without PWHT

When running COMPRESS on the above exchanger, it says PWHT is mandatory for the thickness over 1-1/4",even if Impact test is selected. I couldn't exempt the PWHT by using COMPRESS.
