ione and IRstuff ... THANK YOU! I didnt see where it said the scale thermal conductivity could be as low as 0.4 W/mK however. It says the "Fur" thermal conductivity is 1.2W/mK?

I didnt find anything giving me a thermal conductivity. The best I got in an interwebs search was that it was about 1% that of carbon steel ... that puts the thermal conductivity of scale around 0.5 W/mK. Yet other sources state calcium carbonate thermal conductivity is ~2.25 W/mK (Perry) ...
I urgently need the thermal conductivity of typical CaCO3 scales in sea water, preferably with a decent reference? Any help would be appreciated!

Hi all,
I am trying to calculate the overall heat transfer coefficient for a PARTIALLY buried pipe ... say 1/3rd buried by sand / soil and the remainder open to the air or water.
I can find a few resources for calculating this for fully buried pipes at various depths, but what about PARTIALLY...
To be fair what TD2K is talking about (condensing water out by refrigeration using MEG) is a kind of dehydration, I guess but it is not what is typically known as dehydration in "the industry". Gas dehydration is typically performed using a counter current packed column with TriEthyleneGlycol...
"used MEG for dehydrating the gas during NGL recovery stage." are you sure it wasnt TEG (Tri-Ethylene-Glycol)? ... MEG is not normally used for dehydration.

Im not sure why that is relevant, but I guess there is no harm in explaining why if it helps people come up with examples!
I'm asking because I am currently involved in developing what will probably be the most extensive and complicated continuous MEG injection systems ever built. Therefore I...
Hi SJones,
I did start a Flow Assurance sub forum here but it was so poorly visited that it got closed down, which was a shame. guess flow assurance is still a little to specialised :)
I'm asking because I am currently involved in developing what will probably be the most extensive and...
I asked here because formation and inhibition of Hydrates is a thermodynamic issue, and hydrates (and MEG inhibition thereof) have been discussed here previously.
The Petroleum section of this website is primarily focussed on downstream production where hydrate inhibition is typically not as...
Hi All,
Not quite sure whether this is the right place to pose this question ... but here goes anyway.
I'm looking for a fairly comprehensive list of large projects which have used (or intend to use) continuous MEG injection as the primary hydrate prevention strategy.
So far I have come up...

No, I'm sorry it is not at all reasonable. If I wanted to sum all those cells I would have done so in the first place, I don't want excel to be second guessing my intentions.
FWIW The reason I wanted to sum the first 3 cells and not the 4th one is fairly reasonable and typical in a data entry...
Um I think you might have missed the point.
You will get the right sum but the formula will automatically change itself
Do this
[tab]A|[tab]B|[tab]C|[tab]D|[tab]E
---------------------------------------
1| 4|[tab]6|[tab]5|[tab] |[tab]=sum(A1:C1)
---------------------------------------
2|...
I've found out how to stop Excel doing it.
In Excel 2007 click the file button ... go to "excel options" >> go to the "Advanced" tab >> uncheck "Extend data range formats and formulas"
This is a very scary "feature". I recommend you advise your work collegues about it and turn it off. It could...
Ok so I have a bunch of numbers in cells A1, B2 C1 and D1. In cell E1 I have a formula which sums cells A1, B1 and C1.
I fill that formula down a pile of rows, and look at cell (for example) E7 and sure enough the formula still says =sum(A7:C7)
But, for some odd reason, when I enter the...
Ummm djack we also use psia and psig, so I fail to see your point? Torr is not SI nor is it metric ... and as JLSegull pointed out, kPa is the SI measure.
Thanks for the answers guys! :)

Choke CVs are normally quoted in units of gal/min/psi ... what type of gallons? Imperial or US?
Yet another reason to switch to metric ...
