A question on boundary condition

hi, as far as i know, if u r considering the pipe wall as a rigid body, what ever the thickness value u will give does not matter. But how ever, depending on the diameter of the pipe u can find the DIN standard thickness for the pipe..and depend on the value u can assign the thickness...

    Optimizing regenerative chatter in milling.

hi jbel, BillPSU thanx for ur msg and link..but unfortunately i am unable to access anything from there int he link....could plz provide me fresh link...plz take a look... thanks, krishi

Harmonic analysis of a differential milling cutter

Hi fellow engineers, As a part of my work i need work on the harmonic analysis of the milling cutter with differential pitch. Can anybody give me the idea how can I apply the load on a differential pitch cutter(for ex. a cutter with 5 inserts), so that i can run the simulation. And my task is...

    Harmonic analysis

Hi cbrn, Thanks a lot for your valuable ideas. ANd i am sure it will help me to succeed with my work. Here i have couple of questions. Please try to give me the reply. 1) As you suggested, i can model the machine sturctures with beam and truss elements. But what about the constraints. If i fix...

    Optimizing regenerative chatter in milling.

Hi BillPSU, and RGasEng Thanx for your article on chatter. If you any other related articles or other ideas, please suggest to me. and BillPSU, your explanation is quite near to reality. Itz true that i am assuming machine as total rigid body in my modelling. But when it comes to the spindle i...

    Optimizing regenerative chatter in milling.

Helo, here i would like to know some more information regarding machine vibrations also. If i would like perform the harmonic analysis to calculate the vibrations induces in to the machining, how do i need to model the task and force directions. Please give me your valuable suggestions...

    Harmonic analysis

Helo cbrn, and to all other co-enginners in your reply you mentioned that, one case is with vibrations in the milling machine. And you explained that, i need to model just the spindle and at the end of that, i can apply the force which is equal to the force generated by the cutter(this is case...

    Optimizing regenerative chatter in milling.

Hello bklauba, Thanx for ur reply. My task is dealing with the "tool and work piece interaction". Meant to say, when both are in interaction, at some spindle speed(high spindle speeds) the vibrations are induced in to the tool(milling cutter) due to which the surface of the work piece will be...

    Optimizing regenerative chatter in milling.

Hi all, as a part of my work i need to work on some task which is related to "Optimizing regenerative chatter in milling". For this purpose i would like to perform "Harmonic analysis" on the differential cutters with ANSYS. However,i would like to know whether the chatter in the milling cutter...

    Harmonic analysis

hi cbrn, Thanx for ur reply. And coming to our topic discussion, as i explained in my previous post, it belongs to "tool side" only. There is nothing to do with machine. However, i hope that i will finish this task sucessfully with in 3 months. And as u suggested, i will try to contact ANSYS...

    Harmonic analysis

hi cbrn, my task is to investigate regenerative chatter in the milling cutter. Regarding this i am reading lot of journals and what i understood is, at certain spindle speed and cutter speed(as we all know, in milling either of one is rotational or both r rotational), the vibrations will be...

    Harmonic analysis

Hi cbrn, as u guessed my analysis is linear forced vibration analysis. Actually if i know correctly, harmonic analysis means linear transient with either free or forced vibrations. Anyway, i know about my task perfectly, i.e its linear forced vibrations. No doubt in that. So u suggested that...

Can anybody provide an Harmonic analysis example in ansys

Hi EricZhao, for me the exact problem is to get the idea in modelling(pre processor), i.e which kind of model(for the cutter) i need to take to mesh it. Is it a 3D CAD model or any other way.If i will take 3D CAD model, the elements will b really lot and because of this we all know the results...

    Harmonic analysis

Hi cbrn, Thanx a lot for ur detailed reply. You explanation is really helpful. But coming to me, the problem is not to define the loads and forces. I already finished everything on the paper. With the help of stability lobes i can finish my work. The exact problem for me is, how to model the...

Can anybody provide an Harmonic analysis example in ansys

hi EricZaho, thanx for all your links..i hve gone through them..and got most information...thanx again..If you would like to give any suggestions regarding my model in ANSYS, glad to receive. regards, krishi

    Harmonic analysis

hi rob768, thanks a lot for ur suggestions. I understood what u suggested. But for me the problem is, i am unable to model the task. i.e , As i explained earlier, i need to simulate(harmonically) a milling cutter with 4 inserts. I am not getting the idea how do i model it in ANSYS. If you have...

How do you Insert a FEM buckling perturbation into a FEM cylinder?

hi BuckTU, i suggest u to work through linear petrubation step( under load option). Here u can introduce buckling petrubation. And give time steps according to test run (I hope u need to give more steps in ur case). And as analysis is done, if u want to check the buckling load..the eigen values...

    CFD

robert, i thought u know CFD softwares...thtz y i just mentioned FLUENT..FLUENT is not a part in ANSYS..it is separate CFD s/w package...actually...what u r working now is CFX(ANSYS based CFD)and there are other s/w in CFD are FLUENT, STAR CD, etc..FLUENT is also one of the famous CFD analysis...

    CFD

hi robert, concerning ur question...i can`t help u with CFX but for all questions u mentioned, you will find answers through FLUENT. There, under "Area weighted residual average" option..u will find everything u needed. good luck. regards, krishi

    Harmonic analysis

hello rob768, thanx for ur hint. I am working on it. Could you plz tell me elements would play any imp. role in this analysis... thanks. krishi
