Thank you Fabrico, I shall incorporate your information into a range of shocks that I am going to be manufacturing, I do have a design which is losely based on the mono tube but works fine at 1 bar and cavitation is avoided as it does not rely on the gas charge pressure.

A strut is defined as one that is also a load bearing member.
A coil over unit that does not act as a load bearer.

You need to establish the spec of the materiali.e. the tube itself is it cds or erw? The mill that supplies the material should able to supply the necessary information at a glance for what you are asking.
