    Determination of "connection rigidity percentage"

Hi dear members For a steel horizontal frame( H shape),I want to analyze the forces & momentums. But I do not know how we can determine the percentage of connections rigidity.in the other words let's think we connect the middle beam(in H frame)to the sides beams by some bolts in their webs.As...

more than 8 curves to be plotted

If you are working on stress, you can use /CONTOUR to specify the contour values & numbers.

    Problem plotting line numbers/BC's

Line No. or area No. and ... didnot work when you select material no.In the other words when you select material no. & line no. together,ANSYS only showes the "line material no." & not the exact no. of lines. Regards

How to define two nodes with the same DOF?

As Pja mentioned constraint equation may help you.You can constrain all off nodes displacements in z direction & relating them to a consrained node(with zero displacement).try it!

Thanks Alex Thanks liweisc That is what I want.

Result(stress) in rotated axes, model geometry in prev. axes!

Hi I am doing a structural analysis. How we can define model & loads in a coordinate system and have the results(such as stresses ,etc)in the other defined coordinate system(a global CS for whole of the model generated by rotated axis, using "CLOCAL").(however we can calculate it out of ANSYS...

ANSYS - prestressed column with increasing load

Dear HMT Thanks for your comment about my Q,"Applying Initial Condition but non-cumulative results". I used istr. command for a test example: In this Examp,First I used a cncentrate load, say F,on a node & wrote the stress results on a file(ISTR.IST)by using ISWRITE,on after f command. Then the...

Applying Initial Condition but non-cumulative results!

Dear Nodaldof Thanks. You are right.Your suggestion is useful for the same loads,as you mentioned above. But what is the solution if we deal with different loads? Regards

Applying Initial Condition but non-cumulative results!

Thanks Alex again: That is right,if we want to apply the load, directly. But sometimes you are working with two programs(Ansys & another one).In this situations, sometimes(such as mine),the simplest way is to transfer displacements results from the first loading(by the first prog.)to ANSYS. I...

Applying Initial Condition but non-cumulative results!

Dear Mihaiupb Thanks for ur attention. We have two ways to apply imposed displacement.(D and IC commands). With defining TIMINT,OFF (as it recommended ): when I used IC command, the structure parameters changed from zero to F2's related parameters(i.e. from zero to D2) when D command is used,the...

Applying Initial Condition but non-cumulative results!

Hi Alex No. Really I have a structure with a initial stresses caused by F1.this condition can be simulated by initial imposed displacement in the first step(D1).Then we apply new load, say F2. So it is expected to have a diplacement equal to D1 + D2.Isn't it?

Applying Initial Condition but non-cumulative results!

Dear member Q : How could I have a cumulative result at the end of Transient –full Analysis? Problem: Let’s we have two loads acting on a cantilever beam, say F1: as a initial load & F2: as a new load. If we apply F1 & F2 separately we have displacements D1 & D2, respectively. (for a node...

    Seismic Analysis Method selection

Thanks cbrn. I believe that applying time-variant ACEL is not correct, too. Also, I read your post & comments titled as, “earthquake simulation with non-linearities and displacement spectrum?” We have some commands in Spectrum analysis such as (sed,svtype,...) to apply Base nodes DISPLACEMENT vs...

    Seismic Analysis Method selection

Dear Drej Thanks again. About Transient Analysis: Once you replied to a question about Tran. Anal. with the title of "EARTHQUAKE TIME HISTORY" from "civil33 (Structural)" in this forum. His main question was about the accuracy of his method to modeling earthquake force. You did emphasis that in...

    EARTHQUAKE TIME HISTORY

Hi Sir I am doing a model of a wall, subject to the seismic loads, too. Considering to the above comments: Do you confirm your method, yet? Lets we have a simple structure, say a column. Gravity force, as you know is a "body force" and acting to the whole of the structure. But what about...

    Seismic Analysis Method selection

Dear Drej Thanks for your attention. Considering your comments, let we have a response spectrum & do a response spectrum analysis, but here is a problem. Response spectrum as you know deals with only the max values, not history of data. For instance, for a seismic loads i.e. El Centro earthquake...

    Seismic Analysis Method selection

I am doing a model of a dam(concrete dam) subject to seismic loads, i.e. El Centro earthquake accelerogram record & want to select a method in ANSYS. Which method must be selected? 1- Transient Dynamic Analysis-full method or 2- Spectrum Analysis - SPRS? How can I input...
