It's been a while since I saw V4, but you can transfer parameters across parts by ticking the check box next to the parameter in the parameter window and then deriving the part with the parameters you need into another part. Just don't import any of the geometry or surfaces unless you want them...
You need to create the path in each if the planes (or even just work points) exit all of the sketches. Open a 3D skecth and join the segments of your path together or create 3d lines between workpoints/endpoints. Make all of your construction sketches invisible and then use the 3D sketch for...
You don't need to worry about where you build your model in space, but it can simplify and reduce problems if you build parts about the origin. Look into skeletal modelling (I can't explain it).

BillRND,
Inventor also allows you to add features to "dumb solids" without the use to 3rd party add ins. You can perform all of the normal operations (extrude, revolve) to add or remove material from the dumb solid, you just can't access the history tree or feature list (hence it...
Sean,
Inventor is not backwards compatible. The only wa to transfer files from a new version to an old version is through IGES, SETP or SAT. They then just become dumb solids :(
To place holes and match them together, just create the holes in the grounded component in the assembly (you can...
Create your path either with a series of workpoints created on 2d planes or by sketching segments of the path on 2d planes. Once you have the points that you need use the 3D sketch tool to link the various point or paths together in one 3d sketch. Then sweep a profile along the path (not...
You can make them 1 part after making the assembly show what you want. Just derive the assembly into a new part file. any edits to the original two part files automatically update the new joined part.
Never had any of the crashing problems that CadAndy describes. The newsgroup for inventor over the last 3 months has been much more informative that the solidworks one has (since SW created their own "subscription only" newsgroup). Most people over there are only too willing to...
Create a template file (any IDW that you decide you want as a template) with the appropriate text images or what ever in it. Put the template file in the templates directory. I think that if you need to change it though after creating drawings, you still need to open them manually. I think...
From memory someone has written an editor to change property setting on large number of parts. Have a llok at the Inventor Discussion at Autodesk point A or look at the following sites
www.seandotson.com
www.mymcad.com
www.cbliss.com/inventor

What video card are you using?
We use GeForce4 Ti4600 and these have limitations on number of windows open etc, before weird corruption occurs of we get a slow down in machine response.

Steve
Have a look at www.cbliss.com-inventor. There is a good selection of code there. Also look at www.mymcad.com, there should be some links to other sources of code for inventor.
How do I determine the physical characteristics of the coil and magnet? eg size of magnet, proximity to coils, number of coils, diameter of wire?
Thanks
