Mixing shell and beam model in ANSYS

    Hi all,I have a pressurized piping layout something like this: ----------- | | B | | ------------ --------- | |...

    .STT file >2GB

Hi I am running AB 6.4 on XP sp1,FAT file system. FAT can handle file size upto 2GB. I noticed that once my my .STT file size exceeds 2GB the program terminates. How can I reduce .STT file size? Is there something like FREQ paramater for controling this file size?

How to put surface stress as load

Use initial stresses to stress your model . you can read in initial stresses from a file.See documentation for details of command and an example problem. --BRC--

Nonlinear transient dynamic seismic analysis in ANSYS

Cloche, You are right again! Thanks! --BRC--

    repeated nodes in two instances

There are two instances of part in shell2solid coupling example problem which have same node numbers .when I want to print displacements in dat file for a node set from one instance,I get print out for other nodes with same nubers in the other instance due to same node numbers. How to overcome...

Nonlinear transient dynamic seismic analysis in ANSYS

Thank you Drej and Cloche for giving valuable insights. I have a simple question in using Big_Mass method, which I never used before.,but am going to use now. How should this big mass (M)(~ 10^6 times structural mass)be attached to the structure (pipe)at fixed end to apply force(F=Ma)input to...

Nonlinear transient dynamic seismic analysis in ANSYS

Drej, Thank you for your kind reply. (BTW,I posted the ABAQUS part of question in ABAQUS forum too but nobody replies.so I would like to discuss it further here with you and all) >>You apply the time history to the ends of the pipe for each direction that you have data for, so you don't need to...

Nonlinear transient dynamic seismic analysis in ANSYS

Hi dear Drej, Thank you for your prompt reply. A doubt.. DO you think that applying acc.time history with ACEL commandin ANSYs (for ex using a do loop) to unconstarined structure in (nonlinear) transient dynamic analysis is correct method to simulate ground motion due to earthquake?I feel it...

Nonlinear transient dynamic seismic analysis in ANSYS

Thank you Dreaj for your valuable replys .The following thred discussed combining seismic responces using SRSS etc. http://eng-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=18095 My present problem is: I need to do nonlinear full transient dynamic (so all modal methods and response spectrm method are...

*Direct -method of nonlinear dynamic (seismic )analysis

Hi all, I believe some expert(s) on ABAQUS around here could answer this one: I have a pipe modeled with shell elements(S8R). The simultaneous loads are (1) internal pressure(2)ground acceleration time history. The pipe is like a cantilever.ie. One end of pipe is clamped(fixed, all dof zero)to...

    Solid model with shell skin

Loew, You are right, but tets and triangular shells are still not as good as hexahedrons and general shells respectively and I am still sceptical of using them wherever high strain gradients are involved. Perhaps one can use hexahedrons in critical regions coupled to tets in rest of the...

    Solid model with shell skin

Gary Mostyn in the same thread says he uses Tet elements for fatigue analysis and coated with triangular elements. Are Tets appropriate for problems involving strain gradients as in fatigue problems? Moreover traingular elements are also overly stiff.Aren't they? Any comments? brc01

    Seismic Analysis

The three have to be combined coz an earthquake shakes your structure SIMELTANEOUSLY in all the three directions. Well,COSMOS uses "SRSS:Square root of sum of squares"method to combine these responses to get the net response.I am not sure if anything similar is there in ANSYS.

    cyclic loads on a beam

Your question is not clear.1.Does the load varies from +20KN to -20KN ?if yes,it is correct to apply the load directly or by giving proper displacement so that the load varies from +20KN to -20kn in each cycle GoodWishes

    ELBOW LIMIT MOMENT ANALYSIS

Hi! I am doing linit load analysis of 90 degree pipe elbows subjected 1)to out of plane moment alone and 2)Out of plane moment and internal pressure acting simultaneously. I simulated th emoment by equal and opposite pressure on two halves of the pipe cross section. As there is no symmetry...

    Seismic Analysis

I am doing seismic analysis using ANSYS 5.7. After doing response spectrum analysis to find responses(displacement and stresses)for three INDIVIDUAL spectra (say in X,Y ,and Z directions)using SRSS mathod of combination, how to get the COMBINED RESPONSE DUE ATO ALL THE THREE SPECTRA ?How to...

SIMULTANEOUS APPLICATION OF TIME VARYING AND CONSTANT LOADS

I am doing nonlinear static analysis of elbows to find limit load under internal pressure and a moment .I want to keep internal pressure in the elbow constant and vary the moment applied at the end(applied by equal and opposite pressures)with time,in steps , from zero to some specified value...
