    Test results vs FEA results.

The stress i talked above is not a stress due to singularity.

    Test results vs FEA results.

We wanted to study the variation of a gusset/rib in a clamp. We tested a sample and it was bend out of shape for a load of 200lbs. I need to redesign the geometry to improve the load using FEA. When i modelled the geometry , FEA has predicting the stress to cross the yeild stress at 10 lbs at...

how does thickness affect the design

I am not doing glass analysis. I have taken glass so that it gives easy visualisation for any one. I wanted to determine the sheet thickness for a sheet metail.

how does thickness affect the design

I put a sheet of following dimensions on floor. Assume the material is glass. 1) thickness 1.2 mm diameter 2" 2) thickness 1.5 mm diameter 2" 3) thickness 1.8 mm diameter 2" 4) thickness 2 mm and diameter 2" And I apply same compressive load on all these sheets Let us assume that i transfer...

    Gear design

If the gear is the first gear or a middle one in a gear train, we need to scale up the torque according to the gear train ratio and arrive at the maximim torque.

    Gear design

Hi all, I need to rerate the Gear box product from strength point and tell our counter part, what torque does this gear box can with stand. I understand GEAR boxes fail by wear and pitting and other means. My task is to tell what torque does this gear box can with stand. Once I give those...

reliability of FEA stresses with out testing.

So are you agreeing with me in saying, with out experience on the specific product line, and with out testing, One should not release a report saying, the component will with stand this much amount of loading

reliability of FEA stresses with out testing.

Hi all, So far, in my analysis carrier, I was redesigning components to a bench mark design using deflection or frequency as a critieria, But not for the stress values. Now, I need to find the highest torque a particular gear box can with stand. I understand , "Entire carriers are based on...

Bearing ID increases or decreases w.r.t. temperature

Actually room temperature out side is 35C. and in air conditioned room of 25 C, the readings are taken again. So i am treating the assembly to be heated from 25 to 35 C.

Bearing ID increases or decreases w.r.t. temperature

Endshield OD 23.114 mm Enshiled ID 15.857 mm Bearing OD 15.913 mm Bearing ID 12.714 mm Interference is between Endshield ID and bearing OD. We are heating the assembly by 10 C. Regards Kamalakar

Bearing ID increases or decreases w.r.t. temperature

We got the Id of the bearing measured at two operators. There is a max variation of +/-.002" between the operators. But at different temperatures we are seeing a shift of -.003~.004" decrease in diameter with increase in temperature. Since the values i am talking about is very small should we...

Bearing ID increases or decreases w.r.t. temperature

We have put the whole e/s assembly overnight in a hot chamber so that whole assembly is at the same temperature

Bearing ID increases or decreases w.r.t. temperature

Co-effcient of expansion of aluminum is more than steel.

Bearing ID increases or decreases w.r.t. temperature

I posted this query in bearings section. I feel this is the right forum to post this query. Hi all, This is a general question. When we heat a cylindrical bar, it expands in Length, Outer diameter and Inner diameter. Now i have two queries. 1) We press fit a sleeve bearing made of steel...

Bearing ID increases or decreases w.r.t. temperature

Hi all, This is a general question. When we heat a cylindrical bar, it expands in Length, Outer diameter and Inner diameter. Now i have two queries. 1) We press fit a sleeve bearing made of steel with a tin babit coating on to an aluminum endshield. When this assembly is heated will the ID...
