soil upheaval causing concrete to rise and crack

We already demolished the concrete and plan on replacing with a new concrete slab but I am not so sure how to deal with the original soil that expanded when a 2" underground emergency eyewash/shower line leak. What should I do with the original soil? Do I need to excavate and replace it with new...

    Acid Exposed Concrete

Have this concrete that is already exposed to acid. You can tell that matrix holding the aggregates is partially gone and you can see the aggregate. I don't want to demo this concrete and I wanted to save it and overlay it with good sound concrete that is resistant to acid and base with PH...

    Asphalt Ramp Driveway

We have this existing driveway that a has swale and would like to cover the swale with a built up ramp (hump) to re-direct surface water flow (see attached sketch). I have two questions that I am not so sure about. 1. In order to build the ramp, should I remove the existing asphalt top and...

    Bonding Construction Joints

When I was a newbie on the jobsite, I saw contractor poured lean concrete first at the joint (probably about 1" thinck or less) interface between the footing and combination of retaining/containment walls. Then the contractor sub-sequently poured the regular concrete on top. I checked the...

Spacing between a fire hydrant and industrial plant (Acid/Amine Plant)

I am concern about the distance between the fire hydrant and acid plant (source of the possible fire). This plant was built in 1960s and code is diferrent at that time. I have a project to put a containment wall around the acid tanks and as much as possible, do no want to relocate the fire...

    Where to connect drain pipe

I failed to mentioned that all our storm sewer is treated in our treatment plant so as the other liquid mix. Just got an update that the other liquid mix will be neutralize before it goes in the storm sewer pipeline. This is better for me since I only need to be concern with one connection...

    Where to connect drain pipe

We are planning to construct a concrete secondary containment with a sump to drain out either rainwater or other liquid mix. In order to drain the liquid inside the containment, an inlet pipe will be connected at the sump directly either to an existing drainline pipe or to an existing concrete...

    Secondary Containment Options

DMW0001, Thanks for the suggestion. This should work for a secondary containment where if there is a spill, it is neutralize with sodiom hydroxide. One question, did you have experience placing this type of concrete mix at a sulfuric acid tank storage area?

    Secondary Containment Options

We just finished brainstorming on the options for secondary containment on an acid storage tank. One option we came up with is to use an outer shell for each tank in the area. Anybody has any suggestion or experience installing an outer shell enclosing the existing acid tank?

    Secondary Containment Options

oldestguy-thanks for the information. We use special concrete from Saureisen in the pass on other project(this concrete is good with chemicals with pH level 1 to 14). However, it is too expensive to use for this containment wall/floor project. We will explore the option of using earth-bentonite...

    Secondary Containment Options

We are still in the brainstorming stage on what we should use to contain spill of Fresh Acid and Spent Acid (sulfuric acid, conc. 91%). The existing primary containment is a steel tank and the existing secondary containment is a concrete curb or wall. We got cited for not enough secondary...

    Pipe Bedding Details

Can anyone tell me where to look for details of pipe bedding? I got this storm drain repair work using a combination of elestomeric couplings, clay wye fitting, and cpvc pipe. The depth from top of the pipe to ground surface is about 30". I am also interested in what type of soil should I use...
