You could try Tracerco, a company that provides many online optimisation techniques, the link attatched is specific to FCCU optimisation

Dear Sirs,
I'm a great fan of looking for real time solutions, can I suggest you look at the following link of pipe scanning
http://www.tracerco.com/pdf/Scan%20Pipe%20Study.pdf
It will help in determining how much of a problem there is
Can I suggest as AndreChe you call Tracerco, they have a new service which is called Thru Vision

This allows you to obtain a 2D density map through the column as opposed to basic data from scan lines.
I hope this has been...
An alternative way to look at this would be to detect the approach of a naturally occurring slug utilising density meters (slug monitor) with set trigger points and then control the slugs impact on the downstream system by controlling the stroke of a choke valve.
The technique I am talking about is service technique that Tracerco provide, the well is in service at the time of measurement. I think though that you are after permanently installed device if it is required to prevent overfilling?
Visit Tracerco's website full of good ideas techniques for...
In the past we have used a technique that is based on gamma ray transmission. The tool is passed in through the brine pipe and takes density measurements in relation to the bottom of the brine fill pipe. I know that Tracerco provide this service @ a number of sites in the UK.
In my experience of dealing with tower problems where it has been operating normally and then "something" has changed to upset the process it's better to try and get an understanding of it prior to taking a shutdown, i.e. get a full understanding of the problem before acting.
Tower scan's are...
As m777182 has said it would be possible to measure density with a nucleonic type device. This would work with the following principle that materials of greater density absorb more gamma radiation. Thus if you can guarantee the process flowing is constant, any other absorbed radiation must be...
With regard to how much revenue is being lost in the industry you may want to contact Tracerco as they carry out pipe scanning to determine deposits in pipelines, the link attached describes a scan they have done for carbon lay down

They may...
