    Zinc Plating

There are many clear chromates on the market, some offering much more corrosion protection than others. For example, we have a clear chromate that will pass 48 hours in salt spray to red rust, and another that will pass 120 hours. We offer zinc plating with clear/blue, yellow, and black...

    Zinc Plating

There are some things the plater can do to enhance corrosion resistance. Zinc dust, hydrogen peroxide, and carbon treat the zinc solution periodically. This removes metallic and organic contamination that can contribute to premature corrosion. Also, the plater should check the bottom of the...

Dry Paint Filters - Spontaneous Combustion?

Stacking the filters can trap fumes from evaporating, causing friction, thus heat, thus fire. We have incorporated this dry filter system as well. Our procedure is to hang the filters to allow them to completely evaporate and dry, then disposal. Hope this helps.

Suggestions and tips for a small in house plating plant.

There is too much info to list on this reply. I would recommend contacting a consultant for help with this installation. You can find one at www.finishing.com. They can walk you through the environmental issues (air and waste water), technical analysis of all plating solutions, and line set-up...

    Painting Valves

What type of phosphate? Iron phosphate would be more economical, but unless the parts are painted immediately after phosphating, they could begin to flash rust. This would not promote but would decrease adhesion. If you need more storage time between phosphating and painting, may want to...

Want to be involved in the coating industry

First, congratulations on joining our industry! The momentum of our industry always presents opportunities. I agree with the previous posts to join associations to keep updated with current issues. These issues often present opportunities, such as EPA regulations, OSHA regulations, etc. For...

    Zinc and 300 series combination

Ionic Zinc reacts with ionic chromium (in its hexavalent state) in an acidic catalyzed solution to form zinc chromate. I would not think this reaction should occur in their uncharged state as metal. The only reaction I would expect is the zinc corroding, which is why zinc is sometimes referred...

Black Anodize over 6061-T6 Al - Defect Question

Also need to check substrate. If any alloying metals are present in this area, can affect appearance of anodize coating.

Protecting CDA 260 Brass from Dezincification while annealing

The majority of the parts we anneal are 70% Cu / 30% Zn. We anneal at 500 degrees F for 8 hours, gas fired oven, normal atmosphere. I have completed exhaustive stress corrosion experiments with gases from ammonium chloride solutions (raised to pH of 10.0) and mercurous nitrate solutions. The...

    Surface finish after nickel plating

Electroless Nickel should mimic the surface of the substrate. If the substrate is polished, the EN plate will be bright - if the substrate is etched, matte finish (assuming all components are within their operating parameters).
