I am in the same exact position even including your long-term goals. I'd love to hear some input on this matter.
I'm considering going right into estimating/project management directly.
To know every operation and to gather all the experience to become an excellent estimator, one would need...
Hello,
I'm trying to design/fabricate an air-lift system to clean-out the bottom of my caisson shafts.
The description my supervisor had given was vague, I understand the concept but need some easier direction or a cut-sheet. I've searched on-line and was unsuccessful.
If someone could supply...
Great responses thus far.
Our company has performed mini-pile jobs before, so creating the estimate is the easy part.
We are already working near the railroad ROW(right-of-way) so training, pre-cautions and other misc items have been taken care of.
We're currently putting a proposal together...
Hey all,
I need to propose to an owner, Turner Construction, a new design for a deep pier/footing that is originally seated on-top of rock.
Bear in mind that I'm a foundation contractor with a civil degree. Im not as well versed as I'd like to be due to the fact that I'm relatively new...
Like csd72 stated, that retaining wall was only built to hold that existing earth in place. With the added weight of the structure the wall would be under much more strain and stress than it was designed for.
Tiebacks, not only costly, probably wont produce enough force to hold the wall with...

IMO a piece of paper has no value to anyone but you (and perhaps the college since they're richer for it) unless it is used.
A waiter doesn't ask for his tip before he's served you and neither should you until you benefit the company for having...
It seems to me that through generations there is a repetitive cycle. The older generation feels that the new generation is needy and has fewer obstacles to succeed. Where as the boomers feel as if they paved the road for us. And I'm sure the gen. before the boomers would state the same issue...
Hello,
Im on a job in which we had over a hundred caissons/core beams that must be driven into rock. Some pipes will sit on-top of rock while others require some embedment ranging from 6'-14'.
I'm looking to purchase cutting shoes for each of my pipes but cannot find an application with rigid...
Does anyone know if pile driving rigs fall under the C&D Dept. of buildings code in NYC?
I cant find any real information online..

I need to have some rock privately tested ASAP.
I think we might have hit serpentine rock which you all know contains asbestos.
I need this done ASAP, I need to know procedures for transporting this material and if anyone knows of any geology labs in or around Manhattan that might be able to...
MINI-Piles
Look into them as means for an anchoring system. As per your drainage, OldestGuy answered better than i could.
But the mini piles are small, can be any length, can be drilled/driven easily and anchored into a foundation. It should be suitable for any uplift.
if you have any site...
We are driving 162 piles of different lengths and different elevation. Some will be driven 15' and wont hit rock. Some will be driven 35' and wont hit rock. Others will be driven 5' and drilled 20' into rock. The elevations, embedment, concrete sockets, lenghts... are all different. I didnt want...
Excuse me, let me re-phrase that..
We will auger down 30'. Drive down a temporary casing. Pour a concrete socket for the section of beam that will be in rock drive H-Pile in place. Voila!
Piles that go into rock will be "drilled" not "driven"... but I'm sure you already knew that.

HELP!! Im very unfamiliar with the driving of H-Piles, but I must submit a means and methods procedure to the owner for driving H-Piles.
There will be 162 piles @ 30' that will drive 25' through soil and 5' through rock.
The rock we will hit is serpentine rock which contains traces of asbestos...
