Very interested in your reply here.
I too have to perform FEA dealing with shock pulses upto 25g 11ms half sine I have a couple of questions if you are still monitoring this post:

Thanks guys, be gentle I am a complete novice here with thermodynamics
The box is filled with air only.dvd, can you explain a little. Biot number and lumped capacitance do not mean a lot to me (being mechanical!!)

Hi All,
I have a box structure measuring 3000mm x 2500mm x 2100mm. This structure has 60mm walls, floor and roof with a thermal coefficient of 0.39. - 0.49 Wm/K
If I said starting point was with an internal temperture of 18 degrees centigrade and the outside was a constant -40 degrees...

Just moved from Ansys 10 to 11 which i beieve you can now do a flexible dynamic analysis.
Can somebody please give me a input the data for a 4g 10ms half sine pulse. I am presuming its entered as acceleration versus time steps?
Thanks GBor,
The structures in question are relatively simple steel and aluminium brackets securing loads to walls. The FEA package used at the time could not perform any model transient analysis.
I had looked into dynamic load factors for various classical pulses and derived a figure of 1.8...
Thanks Gbor,
Firstly Military no, pressed wrong button on forum set up should have been mechanical(don't know hoe to change it).
The reason I am asking this question is because I have some previous analysis where the requirement was to look at equivalent stress when a half sine 4g 11ms pulse...

I don't know a great deal about APDL. I understand the concept of the TARGET and the CONTACT, but how do I simulate the movement of the one part towards the 'ground'. (ie if the part is falling from 10in its velocity won't be a high as if it were dropped from 10ft at the point of...
Hello All, Hope somebody can help
We want to simulate the dropping of an object from a certain height onto a floor. The acceleration will be standard earth gravity and the part in question will have a point mass applied to the centre of gravity of the part. We want to simulate the stress and...
Actually I am using the data to manually calculate the centre of gravity of the whole assembly. I know Inventor can calculate automatically, but my customer likes to see manual calculations.(Moments and all)
Hi All
Anybody know a way of exporting the xyz co-ordinates of individual parts,(relative to the assembly origin),in a way that can be used in excel / access?
I basically need a list of the xyz of all parts used. At the moment I am having to interrogate the physical properties of each part and...
Hi I have a spaceball 4000 and a traveller and it would be like cutting my left arm off without it.
I believe 3D connexion have released a newer cheaper 2 button version now

Can you simulate a shock pulse of 4G (11ms half sine), by using a linear acceleration of 8G (eq Ratio 2:1)in Ansys
Somebody told me that in the Harris shock & vibration handbook, there is a reference that a shock pulse can be simulated by applying acceleration as long as it is a 2:1 ratio...
