concentricity vs. the cmm (concentricity is evil)

How about a CMM with a scanning probe? What is an acceptable point sampling density required for runout or circularity?

    Deviation calculation signed?

David, Thank you! I couldnt find the Section 6.5(c), then after carefully reading I noticed that you referenced ASME Y14.5.1M not simply Y14.5M. I am embarassed to say I did not know of the exsistance of this document. I found it on the ASME website and promptly purchased it and downloaded it...

    Using 3D Model Geometry

Im not sure of the other CAD Systems, but Unigraphics has the capability to define tolerances within the model itself otherwise known as "Model Based Tolerancing". The idea is that the tolerance definition can be defined in the model and "flowed down" to downstream applications such as CMM...

    Deviation calculation signed?

David, Thanks for your reply. I agree with you, though Im trying to find information in a standard that defines "deviation" and how or if it should be summarized with a sign when referencing the reporting of a profile tolerance. For the application of such a tolerance I believe it is required...

    Deviation calculation signed?

Yes. Given a profile tolerance and its application how should the deviation be reported? If it is .001 toward the inside of material direction, how should the deviation be reported: +.001" or -.001"? Thanks, Scott

    Tolerance Stack Up Software

The two I have run across are both UG embedded. Tolmate and VSA. Both now owned by UGS or I guess now since Seimens purchased it owned by Seimens. In my humble opinion I believe Tolmate does a better job of analysis. Scott

    Deviation calculation signed?

Does anyone know wheter or not deviation is supposed to be signed? To explain: If I evaluate a surface with a single point the nominal is defined as 0.0000, and the point measurement is .001" toward the inside material of nominal. How is deviation calculated? Does it have sign (ie negative or...
