I've found BricsCAD the most seamlessly compatible at the DWG level (2D AND 3D), with a strong nod to ProgeCAD, both are BASED on intellicad, but Bricad's implementation seems the stronger of the 2. If TURBOCAD has full Dynamic Block creation, or something close enough to well serve the...

Good to see you here ! Yes, both the SLICE Command, & automating simple repetitive tasks makes ACAD-3D very doable for me, too !
I USUALLY, however, suggest users new to ACAD-3D stick with the stock menus and commands at first, reading everything they can get their hands on to help...
Are you interested in 3D Modeling in AutoCAD ? Assembly 3D Modeling in AutoCAD ? As an Inventor user, I can ASSURE YOU that 3D Modeling in AutoCAD is NOT ONLY DOABLE, but appropriate and PRACTICAL as well.
If they're searchable, look for my previous posts (very historic but absolutely...
Extensive experience with ProgeCAd and have also used BRICSCAD. BOTH are excellent. BricsCAD gets my nod for STRONG STABLE 3D, and strong stable 2D. B-C departs somewhat from the strict look and feel of AutoCAD, but remains very similar, with the variations being strong options, and very useful...
Yeah, we're getting away from "I can use it because its mine - I paid for it" (yes, you PAID for the use of the LICENSE, so you OWNed the right to use it for the period of the license) to I'm willing to accept the requirement for ongoing repeated asking for permission, as long as I'm willing to...
Hello ! I'm over from the AutoCAD forum with a little bit different question-
We have a fairly large welded structure and would like to estimate the added weight of all of the welds. My opinion is that the difference would be insignificant, but there are other "wiser" opinions that want to be...
Nvidea Quadro 4000 with latest drivers not enough ? Hmmm... ok. Solution to ACAD 2014 shortcomings is Buy 2015 or 2016 ? Uh - the problems didn't exist at 2012.
... and Zooms & Orbits no longer center on the selected object if in a P-Space viewport, like before. Another "Improvement
" I guess. ADESK - New wish list item: PLEASE require a minimum age for deciding on "improvements" at something older than 20 ? Thanks !
BTW-
White background set in colors tab of options dialog, not visualstyles. All very frustrating. Oh well.
Probably best to go back to earlier successful ACAD, but ever try dealing with adesk & their licensing hoops ? high-cost/high frustration - low success rate/high "improvements" rate +...

Thanks for trying, but if you'll take a close look at my post, I lay out in a DETAILED way what's going on -
MODEL SPACE:
1. The COLOR reset in the OPTIONS dialog calls for the background color setting. I set it to black, crosshairs` stay white, zoom - W boxes etc are white, just as...
Hmmmmm ... I guess I wasn't clear. Sorry. The steps mentioned in my question cover the OPTIONS - COLORS approach mentioned.
I set my crosshairs to black, which used to cover such items as zoom window boxes, etc, but with "improvements" this no longer seems to be the case.
There was even a...
Just a thought, but I discovered that color - 40 is an excellent replacement for yellow. I map anything I want to plot yellow but be able to see it on paper, as yellow (#2) to color 40. To go along with that, I also set (where allowed ... ) all color - 2 (yellow) assigned layers, etc., to color...
They've swapped a new computer under me, and upgraded my ACAD. All good.
HOWEVER -
Now on my white background in model-space (I use a white background when swapping my view style to HIDDEN) my Zoom-W box stays white. In the past (and on my previous computer) if I selected a color-7 background...
I create both shortcut menu items and buttons.
Under pull-down menu: TOOLS-Customize-CUI,
All I do is put the command, and answer prompts for distances, etc, then let the running command turn control over to me to select the 2 lines to chamfer or fillet. I also use this for a few standard...

VERY good input. I'll do just that when it becomes appropriate. In the mean time, looking for an inexpensive workalike. Will try ZWCAD and post back with results ...

Yes, nice point. Goes to my basic message - scale up or down, as needed. Remember too, tho, that sometimes you have to handle feet-inch-mm's ...
Thanks !
I just double click the unexploded dimension, swipe over the portion I want and ^c. It always pastes in as simple numbers in my excell spreadsheet cell. Hope this helps.

Ok, you're dealing with a units problem, just as you correctly state.
If its simple in/mm, recall you'll need to scale one or the other either up by 25.4 or down by the inverse (1/25.4) However, 31800 seems quite large in mm or inches, so I'd get some input from the Prof about what scale he...
