    Keeping it real in 3D

I realize now that the title of this thread is poor. Definitely not to the point. Apologies.

    Keeping it real in 3D

Hi! Is there a trick for dimensioning in a 3D sketch? I finally had to create an "offset/through point" plane to dimension the true distance in X. It kept wanting to grab a vertex, edge, or face, and create a kittywompus dimension! Ken

    Cost/Value of Solidworks?

I think most software companies try to convince you that you need to "upgrade" on a regular basis. If they didn't do this, they'd go out of business. I sometimes think somewhat useless features are created towards this end. The next thing you know, you're working with bloated software. Ken

    What's a body?

I do now see the "Merge Results" check box. I also made a cylinder and rectangular box in the same sketch. They weren't touching, but still the merge option was there. I checked and unchecked it, but couldn't tell that it made a difference. Also, the naming convention in the feature manager...

    What's a body?

Technical support for the Student Edition is via email only. No phone support at all. So you know what that means. My last two emails went unanswered. I will try again and ask about merging bodies. Ken

    What's a body?

I can't find anything about merging bodies in my SW2006. Nada. Zip. Nothing in the Feature Manager. No right-click discoveries. Nothing in the help section on merging bodies. Bodies are talked about though. Maybe this merging thing isn't available in 2006. I also just tried making a rectangle...

    Relearning and order of importance

Thanks all. Surprised, but glad to hear the modeling consensus. I bought the Student Edition three weeks ago, and disappointedly discovered it is version 2006. I also bought the Tickoo book and am nearly finished with it. At $25, the "I Get It" tutorials are in store. The encouragement is...

    What's a body?

I extruded two separate rectangles to create two separate boxes, but I can't find anything about merging. Though I bought the Student Edition three weeks ago, they gave me 2006. Maybe that is the problem? And as I recall 2001, each feature of a component had to be built onto an existing...

    Relearning and order of importance

Let me mention that I knew SW 2001 to some degree back in the day. If I can learn the new stuff, I believe I can finally land another decent job with it. I'm suffering from a little anxiety over this. Not sure where to focus: Modeling Assemblies Drawing My guess is, knowing how to handle...

    What's a body?

I have never made a part that was more than one body. All the tutorial parts I've made have a "(1)" after "Solid Bodies." When my text book mentions a body, I'm safe to assume that means the part/component? Ken

    What's a body?

So I'm trying to relearn SW, and have come across "bodies" in the Tickoo book. Now, I know sketches are used to make features, which make components, which make assemblies. So what the heck is a body??? Thanks a million! Ken

    3rd angle default help

Thanks! I gave you a star. As I'm new, from here on out, is a star satisfactory in lieu of an actual "thanks" post? Just trying to learn the protocol! Ken

    3rd angle default help

I get a message saying the search feature is down. I tried! When I open a drawing, the default is 1st angle projection. Could someone tell me how to make ALL drawing sheet sizes default to 3rd angle? I haven't been able to figure it out, and I thank you in advance. Ken
