Zambo, I think there is a building sitting on the block wall. You can't get a full length bar in the cell with out a large slit cut. Even if they aren't tensioning the chains I assume they are held by a wire in a 'stretched' condition from the top of each piece of chain. My earlier post...
How deep is your stone veneer? if it is 4" nominal just corbel the fascia out the 1 3/4". Use an extra set of stone anchors as low as the flashing will allow. How is the 10" of PC plank elevation going to be covered? If it is covered one could bolt a galvanized 1 1/2" by 3" or 4" by 1/4" to the...
Start with a 16" or 24" deep bond beam above the precast beam. I'd consider specifying one piece horizontal re bars with hooks/termination nut that extends past the center line of the support columns. Maybe even a post tension cable in the precast beam?
Msucog, How far is the site from the concrete plant in miles/time? If the breaks were testing consistently low why wouldn't you just pay for/require an additional X number of lbs of Portland per yard to get your breaks to meet or exceed spec? Is there any chance of systemic fraud/error @ the...
Chains have been used for hundreds of years to reinforce masonry domes. I'm guessing the chains are partially tensioned to a fraction of the compressive strength of the unreinforced block after the dirt is removed from the exterior of the wall to allow the block to return to near plumb. Then...
As soon as the water is added and mixed the Portland cement starts hydrating. Thus every minute the mix is tumbling it is breaking the bonds created by fast setting (finer ground) portion. I sure there is test data out there that lead to the 90 minute rule. You have been hustled by an...
I never been so frighten by an Internet post before in my life. Please contact your respective supervisors with a copy of this post. Just kidding a little. Have you every seen a plane with skis instead of wheels? Or a sea plane? (I'd love to see what coefficient of friction a 777 wheel...
Lightweights cost more usually per unit some which costs can be recouped by lower unit freight costs. But masons will lay more of the lightweights per hour especially in a vertically reinforced wall panel where most units are hoisted over a re bar. The larger/longer the bar size/lap the more...
Temp, what about just installing the wire triangle part of the masonry anchor backwards? I.e. the wider base centered in the slotted wall mounted bracket instead of in the bed joint. Extra ties might have to be used to achieve equal strength as standard installations Another method would be to...
