aircraft loads

Hi : I am trying to check the strength of fail safe chord of a aircraft frame. I know the axial load on the skin creates moment on the frame. But I want to know what are the loads and moment acting on the inner and failsafe chord. thanks

    Short Edge Margin

Hi If somebody is confused I just want to clear that my bearing allowable is much higher than shear tear out so I think I shouldnt be worried for shear-tear out failure even though it is 1.3 D<2D. Am I right in this? And is shear tear out always occur after bearing failure? Thanks

    Short Edge Margin

Hello All, I have short edge margin condition of 1.36D on one of the part.Actually 3 parts of aluminum are joined together by bolts and one part has short edge margin. All the parts have sufficient bearing strength. So if I understand right bearing failure occurs before shear-tear-out-failure.So...

    ESDU methodology

Hi All: Two parts made of Aluminum 7050 and 6061 are in contact. Acyually load is applied on part made of 7050 and it is pushing against another part and hence they are bearing against each other. And my bearing strees 186000PSI(load/area)is more than the allowable bearing streess(140000PSI)...

    ESDU methodology

Hi All: I have high bearing stress for one of the part made of aluminum, the ultimate allowable bearing stress for aluminum is 140000PSI but the bearing stress I am getting is more than the allowable. So since it is a compressive strees problem can I use ESDU method to reduce my bearing stress...

    Bolt Pre-tension

Hi All: I am torqueing the nut so that assembly does'nt come out, I knoow the pre torque but I do not know how much this torque will create pre tension on nut and bolt. So could anyone tell me the basic relation between torque and tension in a bolt. Well I used T=FKD where F is the tensile...

    Washers/Bushings

Hi All: I have steel axle(shaft)in aluminum part, and I doubt eventually corrosion might take place due dissimilar metals.SO in order to aviod this I am planning to use bushing to reduce corrsion but I am worried about that busing being soft material may not take the load and might fail to...

    Hertz Contact Stress

Hi All Thanks for ur reply.E is actually modulus of elasticity when both the material have same modulus of elasticity & poissson's ratio.I think kd is equivalent dia. These formuale are listed in Roarks formual for stress and strain book under chapter "Bodies under direct bearing and shear...

    Hertz Contact Stress

HI All: Using Hertz contact formula I calculated contact stress for cylinder in contact with cylinderical socket but I dont know to which stress to compare this contact stress.Actally I comapred with material bearing stress & calculated stress was less that bearing stress(got margin of saftey...

    Worm Torque & tooth Strength

Hi All: I am working on lifing mechines with handle, worm gear and pulley. Weight to be lifted at the pulley is 200lb.I am applying 30 lbs on the handle (radius=8.5 in & I am using 20:1 worm gear reduction ratio.Handle is rotating at 30rpm). This gear is rated for .23 HP and 1550 lbf*in...

    Forces on Worm gear tooth

Hi israelkk: Thanks for ur reply. I did calculate using the following the formulae. But I am getting huge stress on worm gear tooth & huge Tangential force on gear (2174.lbf)which I sould'nt expect because the gear I selected is rated for .23 HP and 1550 lbf*in output torque. In my case power is...
