ASME B 16.5 FLANGE RATING - WORKING PRESSURE OR DESIGN PRESSURE?

Marty007 - thanks for the tip. I just looked at the recent and previous version of Sec Viii Div 1 and see the difference.

Existing Ventilation Fan Issues -- Looking for industry standards re: installation and configuration

It may be overkill in your situation, but I use API 686 Recommended Practice for Machinery Installation and Installation Design. It has good information on some of the issues you describe.

    100% Outside Air System

Thanks for the replies. I am getting a list of the equipment, the loads are mainly motors but in the space so will need to be included. The duct layout is not yet finalized, so we can localize any exhausts to maximize heat removal from the equipment at the proper location. Thanks again.

    100% Outside Air System

I have a case where we will build a building that requires 100% OA for process purposes. There is a requirement for 2 air changes per hour. The building is a typical metal building used in the US, and will be insulated. There will be about 10 people in the building normally, and some...

    Managing Relief Valve Calibrations

Don, Thanks for the comments. We are recommending to sites to label each location with the RV number on the P&ID so the tag stas at teh location. Adding the acceptable valves to the P&ID in a note wold be a plus, the only downside is keeping that up to date when a valve is discarded ad...

    Managing Relief Valve Calibrations

I have a question about management programs for Relief Valves around the use of spare valves. For example, we have three identical locations for relief valves in the same service and 5 total valves. Threee relief valves are in service and two spares. When the calibration is due on one of the...

    Storage tank imploded while draining

Thanks for the comments. Zdas04, I considered this approach but again, I am not sure how much the vessel would drain. I have been looking at how Bernoulli's equation applies, but not sure how to deal with the tank not being vented. In other words, how can I calculate V2? Also, how will...

    Storage tank imploded while draining

Has anyone done any calculations to show what happens when an atmospheric storage tank is drained without venting? We have had several issues with this lately. One involved steam and we are sure that was related to the vacuum created when the steam condensed. The other was when a tank was...

Swing bolt closure weld stress analysis

I am evaluating some existing filters that use swing bolts and lugs atttached to the filter body that are used to connect the filter head. The swing bolts pivot on a pin up to lugs welded to the head. The filters are designed per ASME Section VIII, Div 1. The swing bolts and lugs are equally...

    braided flex connector failure

Speculation will not solve the problem. As Zapster states, installation issues could be the cause. I suggest that you perform a Root Cause Failure Analysis on this failure to get to the root of the problem. Corrective actions can be taken based on the findings.

McQuay has some good info here: http://www.mcquaybiz.com/McQuay/DesignSolutions/GreenWayPage3?models=%2FMcQuay%2FDesignSolutions%2FGreenWayPage3 Not knowing much about how your system is controlled, it would be hard to answer as to how to fix it. Another option is a humidistat, which can help...
