    SolidWorks files will not save.

Slight niggle though. When I restore my settings from the Copy Settings Wizard, the problem reappears. Bit of a pain, but at least I can save my files again.

    SolidWorks files will not save.

Cheers guys, resetting the registry sorted the problem!

    SolidWorks files will not save.

Many thanks for the suggestions all. I'm using my laptop today in order to get the work done, as I'm in a bit of a rush. But I think I'll set tomorrow aside for some housekeeping. I'm quite confident that a re-install will fix the problem, and while I'm at it a tidy up couldn't hurt. That...

    SolidWorks files will not save.

Bugger. I had a feeling somebody might suggest a repair/reinstall. My installation disc is at home in my laptop after doing a re-install on that over the weekend. Look's like it might be a wasted day :(

    SolidWorks files will not save.

Morning All, I have come to work this morning with a busy day planned. I made a couple of new assemblies first, which I had no problems with. Then I used pack and go to create new versions of some assemblies I already had. Again no problems. Then Solidworks crashed (as if often does on my...

Data management in an badly-organised company.

Whilst I'm on the subject, can anybody see a problem with the following part numbering system. Projects and Products etc. are identified by a four digit identifier, as below. 0236 - Project number 0236-101,102,103... - First, second, third component. 0236-001,002,003... - First, second, third...

Data management in an badly-organised company.

tph216, You've managed to explain my situation better than I can! I'll give BS 7000 and BS/ISO 10007 a read and see what I can take from them to implement here. I think I can make my life a little easier if I improve my system, but I think the organisational culture won't change until the...

Data management in an badly-organised company.

Hi Alex, We do not supply directly to the auto market, and I am based in the UK. Getting this company to conform would be a nightmare task if we did! Although I'm sure it would benefit us in the long run. Cheers

    Apologies for the double post.

Data management in an badly-organised company.

I think I might be trying to be too strict with my filing system. Thus far I have recreated an explorer style file structure in my vault, in which I try to organise everything nicely. Matt Lombard's SW Administration book warns against this, I am going to take his advice I think. I will try...

Data management in an badly-organised company.

Morning all, Some of you may recall that I have asked about document management in the past (along with many others), and I got some great advice when I did. But this time it's a little different. Over the past year or more, I have adopted Workgroup PDM (as a solo user), which was a great...

    Top-Down Assembly Relations Problem

I could kiss you!!! I won't, but I could! Thankyou very much!

    Top-Down Assembly Relations Problem

When I do that it snaps to the vertex, but does not create a relation. I'm confused!

    Top-Down Assembly Relations Problem

Hello All, I am designing an assembly using the top down approach. When I create a new part (Insert Components-->New Part), and choose an existing face of another part as the plane to sketch on, I cannot add any relations between the new part sketch and the existing geometry. For example...

    Transferring PDM Vault

I decided just to go ahead and transfer it all at work, seemed the safer option and besides the weather is too nice to be transferring PDM vaults at home on my laptop.

    Transferring PDM Vault

Afternoon all, I want to create, set up and trial a vault on my laptop and then transfer it to my work server once I am happy with it. My reasons are... 1) More time to trial the vault. 2) I can't seem to get 5 minutes to myself in the office. I am the only person using the vault, as I am...

    Beyond Soildworks

I am of course referring to Solid Works...not SOILED Works as the title suggests. Ho ho ho.

    Beyond Soildworks

I was wondering what programs you guys use other than Solidworks? And what you use them for? I'm trying to add a few strings to my bow...and have a bit of fun at the same time. I figure what better time than a recession to add to your current skills. I've started to get interested in 3D...

    PDM Vault Folder Structure

I like the idea of creating folders per 100 jobs or so. I use a 4 digit project number prefix before each assembly/part file number so that would be an easy way to find project files in my vault. (I did try entirely dumb part numbers but it didn't work for me.) Thanks, that's helped a lot!
