Itsmoked and all,
Thanks, This has been very helpful to me.
Isn't the diode power dissipation only a percentage of the 5.94W depending on your PWM duty cycle? Was the problem with the dual diode because they weren't quite matched and thus one started hogging the current, got hot and started...
That heat sink sure looks impressive. I'd appreciate a pointer to it. Thanks.
It looks like you have four devices attached to each one. How much power are you sinking with this? What is the temperature difference?
Ok, so I'm a little off base, but how else to learn than to talk with people here.
I'm reviving my EE education from 30 years ago (worked as a computer scientist instead). In this project, I''m building a multilevel converter. This is one module. It switches a battery (eventually in parallel...
I am using an NTD70N03R mosfet from On Semiconductor in a half bridge configuration and would like to put several of them in parallel to handle more current (i.e. instead of 2 mosfets, I will have 6) Assuming I can generate the drive current to do this (I'm using a FAN7382 to drive it) my...
Thanks for the help. I think I'll handle the problem with logic on the input side of the half-bridge driver. It's a little more expensive than the pull-up resistor, but will work in all conditions.
Thanks for the explanation. Does this also mean that if I want the initial condition to be with the high side FET (Q1) off and the low side FET (Q2) on that I could have R4 pull the gate of Q2 up to 15V?
Using a micro-controller to drive the gate driver IC, it could take tens or even hundreds...
I am looking at the Fairchild FAN7382 half bridge gate driver. On page 2 of their data sheet (attached) they show a typical application circuit. In this diagram, there is a resistor R2 from the gate of Q1 (the high side MOSFET) to the source of Q1. Similarly, there is a resistor R4 from the...
OperaHouse, you hit the nail right on the head. I was setting both gate signals in the same state. This meant that while QB was taking 200ns to turn off, QA was taking 100ns to turn on. Based on the pulsed current specs I didn't think this would be a problem for the FETs, but I never...
Thanks for the quick responses. Yes, trial and error is what worked for me. I was hoping there might be some rules of thumb people use based on things like the voltage of the battery at maximum and charge and its internal impedance, and other things. That way I could tell if how I was going...
I am trying to determine the capacitor value needed to suppress a voltage spike that occurs when a MOSFET turns on.
I have a pair of MOSFETs (QA and QB) in an H-Bridge configuration which are used to switch a 12V battery across a load. I also power the logic to control the H-Bridge from this...
