Is there an approved substution for 8d cooler nails?

Let me clarify a bit further. Evidently the workers no longer know how to swing a hammer and always want a screw alternative. Is there anything out there for screw substitutions for the 8d cooler nails?

Is there an approved substution for 8d cooler nails?

In the shear wall tables for allowable shear of gypsum sheathed shear walls there are notes that allow for the substitution of either drywall screws or #6 screws for either the 5d or the 6d cooler nails indicated in the table. Is there any published documentation that indicates what an approved...

Aircraft crash/impact loading on concrete structures

My firm has just been retained to design a small concrete structure that will need to be capable of withstanding an impact from a small aircraft. Is there any information or possible a simplified method to design the concrete elements without getting into a long drawn out finite element analysis?

Ky Factor for Moment Frames/Bi-Axial Base Plates

I have a two story moment frame that I am modeling and I do not agree with what the program is using for the Ky factor on the columns. The building has a rigid floor diaphragm and a flexible roof diaphragm and my program defaults are set to choose the K factors is the AISC nomographs. If I...

    Residential Foundation Plumbness Tolerances

Regarding the reason for the wall being out of plumb is an issue that I need to and can address myself. I am only seeking information regarding construction tolerances, which is what my original post had asked for.

    Residential Foundation Plumbness Tolerances

All these questions are irrelevant. I am looking for a code referenced or a standard of the industry, that I can quote from, that will tell me what the maximum allowable out of plumb dimension can be. It can be in the form of a percentage of the height or a ratio of H/???.

    Residential Foundation Plumbness Tolerances

I am currently working on a residential project where the foundation wall is significantly out of plumb. Are there any specified tolerances for residential concrete foundation walls? Thanks in advance.

Snow Drift for a large AHU

The way I am interpreting to section 7.8 is that the drift loads need to be applied, simultaneously, to all sides that are 15' or greater. I believe that the intent is to say that the wind will come from any direction and deposit the snow on all sides, however, due to the 15' width dimension...

How do you Convert a 5-second wind speed to a 3-second wind speed

I am working on determining the cause of a collapse where wind may have been a contributing factor. The climatologically date is given in 5 second gust speeds. Is there a way to mathematically convert this to a 3 second gust speed in order to compare to the ASCE-7, design loads? Thanks in advance.

Steel Beam Lintle Torsional Reaction Support

I am looking at designing a new beam lintel, 14 feet long, supporting 8" CMU with brick veneer. Attached to the veneer will be a fabric canopy cantilevered from the face of the building. If the beam were to be located concentric on the CMU with a plate supporting the brick, as typically seen...
