thank you for the information. it is most helpful.

    UHV and EHV circuit breaker

Having a debate; Is there a difference between pre-insertion resistors and closing resistors in circuit breakers? It seems as though most manufacturers are relying more on switch sync devices instead of any mechanical resistors (pre-insertion or closing) for 345 and 500 breakers. Without...

    breaker test set recommendation

my opinion: kocos actas may be called a portable set up, but it takes quite a bit of equipment. another issue is that it is complex and not as easy, as the others mentioned, to learn. it can perform a dynamic resistance, which i think is very helpful from a field perspective especially on a cap...

    Circuit Breaker testing

PD testing is not mandatory for production testing, yet. i agree that it is not good as a type test. i have used measuring devices and found that they are not limited to PD, but also may tell if bolts are not torques properly. the PD measurements did not pick up until higher levels, above 80kv...

    tin plating corrosion

attached is the picture requested. only the vertical portion is tin plated. the rust on the bolts is a totally different story.http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=3188ce75-706c-4e3a-9850-12fe0dd78b73&file=DSCN0127_(2).JPG

    tin plating corrosion

this is a high voltage connection terminal. the suspect part had not yet been hooked up, so it had been exposed to elements in a matter for a couple of months.it is in louisiana, about an hour north of new orleans. no hurricanes this year. the part size is about 5in x 5in. all of your input is...

    tin plating corrosion

i have an aluminum block that is tin plated. starting to show signs of white corrosion. i have been told that it is normal for tin plating to show corrosion based on environmental conditions. two questions: 1. can anyone confirm or deny that tin plating can corrode? 2. is there an easy test, i...

Breaker loss of gas, Trip or no Trip

from breaker side: most breakers will have significant damage to the interrupter if operated without any gas, if the leak is that big. what i have seen is a time delay on the low gas contacts, and if the breaker reaches third lock out stage before time delay closes, it will keep from tripping...

    on site FAT

to answer your question arevaengineer, yes it is a good idea. customers need to have their own baseline for maintenance. there are too many timing tools on the market to use the FAT report, i.e. different transducers produce slighty different timings.

    Breaker Test Panel

Hi jasonmuneton1, my experience is with a HV gas CB. it shows the operation of the breaker open and close contacts, resistance through the interruptor, travel curves of mechanism damping... let me know if there is something specific that you are looking for.

    5kV motor starter failure

davidbeach, pfr is for continuous current ratings - my bad. you are right with no DC offset.

    5kV motor starter failure

CT's have a power factor rating, most are 2. This means that the CT can handle 2 times the amount of current in the primary. Ex. if the 1200 is rated at 3, it would not saturate until 3600A. FYI... the PFR is dependant on the gage of wire used.

    Hi-Pot Testing

Melco001, that is the AC value. A test report with the CB should state the HP voltage. The manual should also state the DC, but I will get back to you.

    Recloser Vs Circuit Breaker

samy81, regards treading on your thread. tem1234, i am not sure for the derating question in my experience that comes from oil breakers, but has no effect in the gas cb. a gas cb is designed to withstand the rated interruption. most cb's either have logic built in (most commonly an Agastat time...

Advise on How to become a "good" Process Engineer

coming up through a quality into engineering role, I am suprised that there is not more of focus on quality anaysis. understanding all of the tests from quality and R&D towards product assurance is critical in understanding and controlling the process. i am a huge fan of talking with operators...

We received new gas from the manuf and testing results all showed good. We are considering this one closed.

    Gas CB Testing

Angibew25, Thanks that is a great idea. It is a porcelin bushing. The only further testing is the power frequency testing from the manufacturer and by our facility. Both passed with ANSI/IEC standard. I will let you know what we find. thanks

    Gas CB Testing

We have had the gas tested. dp and purity both good. We have cleaned the bushing with alcohol. It is repeatable, in that when we lower pressure we get the same results from #5. It's a 72.5kV unit. The manuf reluctantly sent a bottle of gas, as they think that there may be a flaw with the...
