Hi... yes, sweep is better, but the extrusion only goes to the length of the path selected .... its length/depth is not controllable.... thereby necessitating a second operation which is another step similar to setting up a work plane to begin with. Thanks for the tip..... I don't claim to be...
In order to show an exploded assembly in drafting, an ".ipt" presentation file must be created. From what I see, Inventor does not have the ability to define different assembly configs within the assembly itself (like Solidworks can so easily). I understand that Inventor can define different...
From what I can see, Inventor does not have the ability to extrude along a path other than normal to the sketch plane. Is this true? Do we really have to go to the trouble of setting up working planes and then sketching on them? Other cad programs have had the ability to extrude along a...
My basic Windows 8 search is not able to find Inventor files (.ipt, .iam, etc). I have made sure that all drives and all extensions are included in my "Indexing Options". Any thoughts?
ON the other hand you might consider NOT doing this. Dimensioning follows DESIGN INTENT and how you dimension a part in drafting may be different than how a solid model's sketch is drafted. Personally I much prefer to start my drafting from scratch.
Thanks for all the good feedback. It sounds like the good news is that post NX4 releases are addressing some of the hot issues. Over time I can see that MY biggest problem will simply be that (from what I can tell) my company will be on NX4 for a long time to come..... (it's complicated - dont...
Thanks for the invitation, John. I'll check the schedule and will try to attend one if it is near the Portland area.
Hi Hudson... thanks for the feedback. To be honest, I think that many of your questions would be answered if you were a former I-deas user or if I could sit down with you at an...
>>>by your own admission, NX 4, you have NOT seen all the effort that has been expended to date.
Absolutely true. I certainly hope that post NX 4 releases will gravitate more and more to the I-deas style user interface and lost features.

After about 10 years with I-deas - starting at the (scandal-ridden) beginning of Master Series, a new job has thrust me into the NX world. We're still on version 4 (sadly with little hope of improving that state of affairs) and are using team center. I also have significant experience with...
