    .125 aluminum on a 1500 watt laser

I run a 89 mazak laser path that is also a 1500 watt. We cut .125" aluminum quite a bit with no problems. I would start with at least 1300 watts but run it contiuous wave (100% duty) with the feed at around 30-35 ipm. Other than that I use a standard 1.5mm nozzle with at least 130 psi. Nitrogen...

perventing crash when non metallic cutting on mazak spacegear 510 mkii

Try lasermech.com, i know they make cutting heads for mazaks 2d machines, so they might have what you are looking for. Good luck!

    Machine cost and value

Krugtech, Thanks for your input, I was refering to hybrids in general when I was talking about the beam delivery, as in no more flying optics to align. Maybe I am ignorant but a constant beam length sounds like a good thing to me. I'm sure bystronic makes as good of a machine as any other...

    Machine cost and value

Our small fab shop has been thinking about getting a newer laser for awhile. To give you an idea of our size we only have three to four guys on the floor so anything new or a couple of years old is not ideal. The 1500 watt mazak I run is still cutting quite well but it is twenty-four years old...

    new laser vs. old laser

This is just a curious question I have. Is the edge quality better on a newer laser compared to an old one? For example, is a well tuned resonator from the late eighties going to produce a cut as nice as a good resonator from lets say the early 2000's, or are they one in the same? Any comments...

    Turbo blower

Thanks for the input so far.

    Turbo blower

I recently looked at a mazak mark II. It has a 1500 watt Panasonic resonator with 36,000 hours on it. I am told the blower is original , my concern is that it might fail soon. Does anyone know anything about newer style blowers? How many hours before they need to be serviced or replaced? How...

Clean cutting with PVC on bottom

I recently started clean cutting with our old Mazak that has a 1500 watt PRC resonator. I have been cutting only 14ga. and thinner so far but with mixed results. We do a lot of food grade work so we have always cut our stainless with pvc on both sides (when using oxygen). As of right now I can...

    Collimator lens

Footstrap I regularly use polarizing filters on my focusing lens. I rarely see the tell tale "X" in the center of my lenses but often see little X's around the circumference. Does this classify as stress or is it just from the rings in my lens assembly? Also, I am still unclear what "mode" means...

    Collimator lens

Does anyone have any experience with these lenses? I have one on my old mazak and am wondering if they ever become stressed or dirty enough that it would effect cutting

    HELP

Im not sure what the g87p does, maybe power ramping or a change in focus. Anyway judging by the rest of the code it looks like you have a mazak laser, probably with a panasonic or prc resonator depending on its age. If you dont like running 100% duty (continuous wave) try using m67, this is...

    HELP

I have never cut .625" material before but i would start by raising your focus, this will give you a wider beam, thus a wider kerf. (The last time i cut .38" steel i had my focus set at .05" above the material). You need a wider kerf in order to remove all of your material cleanly, but raising...

    output coupler

The resonator is an old PRC 1500 watt. It does not hold full power but is stable at about 1300 watts.

    output coupler

I am curious if there are any specific signs a output coupler is going bad or needs replacement. I am quite sure the one i have in use now is at least five years old and could probably be changed.

    piercing problems

The machine is an old 1500 watt mazak laser path. Recently when cutting .25 mild steel I encounter problems piercing. The machine pierces through just fine within the time designated but when it switches over to cutting power the material blows out so bad that any small holes are out of the...

    cutting 1/4" HRS on Bystar 4020 2800watt

I cut 1/8" holes in 1/4" HRS all the time. I don't know how universal cutting conditions are from one machine to another, but here are my settings. Power- 1000 frequency- 30 duty- 20 feed- 5/ipm gas- 20 psi

    Indium wire

I am looking to find some indium wire for our lens assembly. We have purchased some in the past but those records are long gone and the rep from our gas provider has not come up with anything promising. Is there anything that can be used instead of indium?

    .003 Brass

Thanks for the advice Henry. I'm not worried about supporting the material, but I am curious if substituting nitrogen for shop air is a possibility.

    .003 Brass

A customer wants our shop to cut some small parts out of .003" brass. I have no clue where to start with power settings and feed rate, etc. I am also curious if brass is reflective like copper. Laser power is 1500 watts, any ideas or warnings would be helpful.

question on Mazak NTX-48 laser 1999

Do you have a non-contact cutting head or are you using a stylus? If the first pierce is fine it sounds like a possible programming issue, maybe something got changed in your sub-programs or your actual "part" programs has different codes than usual.
