    scale factor

How to calculate this scale factor used when defining the load case of response spectrum? Your response would be highly appreciated.

    Moment curvature

Is there any way to know the curvature of the frame member from the analysis results? I need to know that in order to check whether the corresponding capacity is exceeded. Thanks.

    hinge property

Anybody used hinge property to model post-yield behaviour? I am using SAP to model thermal effect of a tunnel unde fire. I found that the thermal gradient generates quite high moments in the propping beams. I need to use hinges to model post-yield behaviour. But I have no idea how to do that in...

    Compression-only spring for frame

I just did it! The direction I applied the spring was wrong before. :(

    Compression-only spring for frame

Thanks for your help. I tried GAP element as well, but still not working. I defined a nonlinear link (GAP type) and assigned to the frame to be analyzed. But the result showed that the spring was not functional at all. Any hints? Or anywhere I did wrong? Thanks.

    Compression-only spring for frame

Is there anybody who knows how to define line spring as compression-only spring? I tried, but it looked not working. Any input will be appreciated.

    Batch file in Sap

Does anybody know how to make a batch file so that the program can keep running a few models overnight without any manually opening different files after each run? Thanks.

Nonlinear analysis for compression-only soil spring

Thanks very much for your reply. If I want to look at the results just from one primary load case, do i need to run this load case nonlinearly as well? Thanks.

Nonlinear analysis for compression-only soil spring

If a sap model has involved compressioin-only soil spring, does it need to run non-linear analysis for every primary load case and all load-combination cases as well? I have modeled an underground tunnel in SAP, and there are quite a lot of soil spring (compression-only) defined. I appreciate...

    Force diagram for Area objects

Does anybody know whether it is possible to output force diagram such as bending moment diagram for area elements? I just knew SAP can output the contour. If I want to see some bending moment diagram along some sections, is there any easier way to do? Heaps Thanks.

elastic-plastic compression-only soil spring in SAP

Anybody modelled elastic-plastic soil spring (compression only) for the underground structure in SAP? I read the CSI analysis reference manual. By defining the link/support property can have a non-linear spring. Looking at the Wen Plasticity Property in Page 242, how can we define a...

    Point load on shell element

I have modelled a simple structure with 4 columns supporting one piece of slab with shell element. I did not mesh the the slab, when I applied a point load on the slab, I still get a reasonable reaction after analysis. It may be because the line constraint in Slab is alway ON. See attached...

    Point load on shell element

Thanks for your answer. But I am wondering why SAP and Etabs are different when dealing with this problem. In Etabs, there is no need to mesh the shell elements so that the points where the loads will be applied happen to the joints of the meshed shell elements. Any special reason?

    Point load on shell element

I modelled floor slab as shell elements in SAP. If I have a point load vertically applied on some shell element, what is the best way to mesh this shell element? Do I need to mesh it manually so that the point where load is applied is one of the joints of the shell elements? See the attachment...

Shell element mesh in SAP and ETABS

Is there any faster way to mesh the slab defined as shell elements in SAP? In etabs, there is a function of "Auto Line Constraint" which can force the deformation compatability between different elements. Is there any similar function in SAP so that we can do the same thing? Thanks heaps.

Flat plate floors with shears at perimeter and internal columns

I have a one-storey building supporting the big tanks for beer producers. Each tank is supported by three columns. Due to the big seismic force, shear walls are introduced. The structural system: Shear walls on each corner (L-shaped walls); 3 internal columns on each tank location to...
