SolidWorks Geometry to COMSOL - Microfluidic Channels

Hello everyone. I'm trying to take a microfluidic chip model I created in SolidWorks and transfer it to COMSOL. I have the LiveLink module which allows me to transfer whatever I do in SolidWorks to COMSOL directly, but my application is not so straight forward. I need to get the microfluidic...

    SolidWorks SP Backwards Compatibility

Hi, everyone. I know versions of SolidWorks are not backwards compatible, i.e. SolidWorks 2011 files cannot be opened with SolidWorks 2010, but I wanted to know if files between different service packs (SP) are. So, would I be able to open, for example, a SolidWorks 2011 SP3.0 file with...

Hollow a Part Out with Another

Hey thanks for the advice everyone. I was playing around and found the cavity function, as well as using an assembly to make the hollow cut out. Gives me exactly what I need, much appreciated :-).

Hollow a Part Out with Another

Hi, everyone. I'm looking to hollow a part out with another. For example: Take a cube, and hollow it out with a step cylinder's profile. However in my case while the first part will be something similar to a cube, the other part will be more complex (not symmetric, etc.), so I cannot do...

How to Leave a Smooth Surface after Cutting from an Odd Geometry

NomLaser - It was created using the Scan3D function from a .stl mesh. It uses actual MRI data so it is not of constant diameter. I would have posted the model, but it's unfortunately confidential. I know it's hard to visualize what I'm describing without posting the model, :-(. TheTick -...

How to Leave a Smooth Surface after Cutting from an Odd Geometry

Hi, everyone. I'm editing a model of an aorta in SolidWorks, and I need to cut off the some extra parts I do not need... Specifically, there are arteries coming off of the aorta. I need to somehow cut them off the main branch, but have the surface I cut them from be smooth after the cut. I was...

Converting IGES Mesh and/or STP Graphics to a Surface

I was (I believe) able to convert from iges wireframe to an iges surface. However, it is around 100Mb, and whenever I try to import it into SolidWorks as a graphics, surface, or solid body, SolidWorks tries to convert it for an hour, then Windows says that it has performed an illegal operation...

Convert Mesh to Surface or Solid

Hi, everyone. I have a igs mesh file that I have imported into ANSYS. I wanted to know if there is some way to have ANSYS convert the mesh into some type of surface or solid body. I have SolidWorks also installed so I can use the ANSYS workbench and communication between them, but I'm not...

Converting IGES Mesh and/or STP Graphics to a Surface

It seems no matter what import options I choose, SolidWorks always imports the data as curves. i.e. for other .igs files, I can import surfaces and bodies, but this only shows up as many imported curves. Also, I usually get a message before importing that, "This file contains free curves/points...

Converting IGES Mesh and/or STP Graphics to a Surface

Sorry for the thread title I should have written ...or STEP Graphics..., i.e. a .stl file.

Converting IGES Mesh and/or STP Graphics to a Surface

I'll try changing the import options, thanks. My heart jumped when I saw ScanTo3D in SolidWorks! However, it gave me an error saying that no surfaces exist? Is there something else I need to do, did I choose the wrong Scanto3D option, or can I not use this function?

Converting IGES Mesh and/or STP Graphics to a Surface

Hi, everyone. I have an IGES file of a CFD mesh containing many lines and points, and a STP file containing the outer graphics created by their boundary. I was wondering if there was anyway in SolidWorks to either: a) From the imported IGES file with all the lines and points, extract the...

Fully Defined Sketches and Auto-Dimensioning in SolidEdge

Hello. I have used SolidWorks for a long time, but recently I changed workplaces, and SolidEdge is used. I'm still getting used to its finer details, and I had two questions: 1) Is there any way to tell when your sketch is fully defined/fully constrained/fully dimensioned? I know in SolidWorks...
