Thanks Matt ..
But still i find myself not clear with the resaon for non operable valves (ie non extended bonnet) in shell mesc .. Even though the temp is below -40 deg centigrade ..
My understanding is that Normally valves in low temperature service should be given a extended bonnet inorder to...
Dear all,
In certain Low temperature and cryogenic applications ,shell specifies valve bonnet to be non extended.. to be more specific it states the valves to be non operable valves (ref shell MESC 77/200).
what are the service or requirements to go for these valves..
Thanks in Advance...

As stated by others generally for all threaded & socket end connection the end to end dimension are as per the manufacturers so the end to end dimension varies slightly from vendor to vendor
Regarding your query on end connection for the threaded valves ASME 16.11 covers the...

I think its not possible to exactly determine the
degree of thinning. However, it can be approximated by multiplying the thickness before bending by the ratio:
R/R+r
where r the radius of the pipe
R the radius of the bend

i have just refered the Std API 609 where these lines where mentioned for testing the electrical continuity ....
When specified in the purchase order, valves shall incorporate
an electrostatic feature that ensures electrical continuity

iam answering for your second part of the question first , the allowable stress value of ASME Sec II PART differs from b31.3 coz the factor of safety differs in both the case the factor of safety is higher 4 incase of ASME sec II and 3 incase of 31.3, ASME Sec II is generally refered for ASME...

Normally for small bore valves the Vendor provide us the 13cr%+stellited(hard facing) , but as the size increases the vendor cant afford to give 13%Cr and stellite disc .
he will either provide 13%CR plated with the WCB material or WCB + stellited upon requirement.
for your Info the...
if you are asking for butterfly valve the face to face to dimension can be as per API 609 catB/ASME 16.10( long pattern) or API 609 catB/ISO 5752( Short pattern),
The face to face dimension for other valves will be as per ASME 16.10.
i think i have cleared for your query.
thanks Mr jones, i was reading other forums in which your contribution was awesome i was awaiting for reply that you would be able conclude whether HIC test is mandatory for casting .
Actually my doubt is NACE MR 0175/ISO 15156 clause 8,mentions sulphur and phoporous content only for...
thanks Strider6
but the Vendor states that it will take a minimum of 30 days for HIC test . so he is asking for the Alternate such as maintaining sulpur and phosporous content which is no where mentioned in the standard NACE MR 0175/ISO 15156 for casting.
kindly provide me any standard...
As per NACE MR 0175/ISO 15156 clause 8,Conventional forgings with sulfur levels less than 0.025 %, and castings, are not normally considered sensitive to HIC or SOHIC.
from this the interpretation is that casting doesnt require HIC, Is the interpretation correct , or really castings...
