    SolidWorks and Dual Processors

What does the group think about running SolidWorks on a dual processor workstation? Looking at the performance graphs in task manager, it seems that the processors are not working together. My VAR isn't much help for this issue.

COSMOS running of shelled surface model

Shell part models make the most sense for sheet metal analysis. Create a surface model with minimal detail (eliminate bend radii and unimportant holes) for the first pass. The elements can be quite large compared to the thickness. The meshes must match for joined surfaces. This can be...

    PROPERTIES OF WELDED ALUMINUM

How much reduction in yield strength is needed for the heat affected zone of welded 6061-T6. How large is this annealed area? I typically do not work with aluminum, and I do not have easy access to aluminum specs.

    SOLIDWORKS Compatibility with LOTUS NOTES

Yes JNR, we had the same problems with 2001+ and 2003. I agree with automationbabe, the best way to deal with Lotus Notes is to leave it closed! I am not aware of any issues with MS Office apps. No matter where I go.........there I am!

    SOLIDWORKS Compatibility with LOTUS NOTES

Does anyone have experience (good or bad) running Lotus Notes along with SolidWorks 2004? We have done everything we can to improve performace here, but still not satisfied compared to my home machine with half the horsepower. Our typical workstations are dual xeon 2ghz with 1 or 2 gig RDRAM...

SHEET METAL PARTS IN DESIGN TABLE

Does anyone know how to create right and left sheet metal parts in a design table? In other words, is there a way to reverse the direction of an edge flange to create right and left parts in a design table? I work with machinery that is basically symmetrical about a central plane. The side...

    CosmoWorks Advanced Professional

Your SolidWorks reseller should be able to provide you with a time limited demo license file that will work for any of the Cosmos products without needing a dongle. The programs can be downloaded from the CosmosM website. I know this is true because I had one for a few weeks, and it worked on...

SolidWorks file conversion frpm 2003 to 2001+

Scott, First let me say, I find your posts helpful and informative. I agree with what you are saying about new features. It is probably not feasible to save models created in a newer version back to an older version. I need to explain my situation further. About a year ago, I created a...

SolidWorks file conversion frpm 2003 to 2001+

I would settle for a warning that some features may be lost in the conversion, like other software products give. Lets face it, most folks never use the majority of "new capabilities" that they keep coming up with. It seems that the basic modality (sketches, extrusions, cuts, revolves)...

DESIGN METHODS AND STANDARDS FOR RECTANGULAR STORAGE TANKS

chicopee: I would be interested to know what references you refer to for tank design based on membrane theory. I have not been able to find anything that addresses large deflection analysis of rectangular flat plates subjected to non-uniform pressure. I have seen a table in Roark for large...

SolidWorks file conversion frpm 2003 to 2001+

I use SolidWorks 2003, but I will be working with a client who has 2001+ only. Does anyone know of a way to convert 2003 files back to 2001+? The viewer is not the answer, because he wants to be able to edit as well.

DESIGN METHODS AND STANDARDS FOR RECTANGULAR STORAGE TANKS

The tank design methods I have seen are based on a very important assumption that the deformation is small (less than half of the plate thickness). This is impractical for the large tanks that I am dealing with. Measurements of deformation of actual large tanks are much less than these methods...

Actual properties of A36 vs. minimum

Does anyone know the actual properties of A36 plate and shapes versus the published minimums? I have read that A36 being produced today is closer to 48 ksiy and 70 ksiut. Is this true?

DESIGN STANDARDS AND METHODS FOR OPEN RECTANGULAR STORAGE TANKS

Feitor, I have Megyesy's book. I have noticed some errors and omissions as well in this section, but not in the formulas. Are there errors in his formulas I should be aware of?

DESIGN STANDARDS AND METHODS FOR OPEN RECTANGULAR STORAGE TANKS

I have been trying to find recognized standards regarding design of large open rectangular storage tanks. My company has acquired this product line recently with no backup calculations. There are many sizes. I would like to check the designs, and also determine what modifications are necessary...
