We tend to use thicknened annular rings only when required for high strength steels, for seismic uplift as per APX E for and APX M when required.
We have used annular rings on smaller tanks i.e 12m in the past where the ring is the same thickness as the remainder of the floor just because it...
Hi all,
We are currently designing a small anchored sulfuric acid tank (D = 4.2m, H = 4.8m )and have been requested by our client to allow for a "Gullet Drain" That is basically a pipe with centreline intersecting the floor to shell joint (see attached sketch). Legislation in New Zealand...
This is the response that I got from API
regarding Appendix Y:
The API 650 is not available as of now in the Monogram Program.

Thanks for all your posts
Have spoken with HMT regarding this and have got the same responses as IFR's noted above.
Just to clarify we are not installing floating roofs over the diesel.
Hi,
We are currently designing some 40m (130ft) Diesel tanks to be located in a climate between 10 - 40°C (50-104 °F) close to the ocean.
We are interested in using aluminium geodesic domes primarily to reduce construction costs and get away from using columns or truss type roof support...
Thanks very much for your replies, I will design to 650 taking into account design metal temp during steel selection.
These tanks will be fitted with Nitrogen blanketing systems, but the design pressure will not exceed the limiys in App F.

Sam
Hi,
Additional to FTank's comments above, if you use a cone down foundation you can install tell-tale leak detection pipes in the foundation (in accordance with Appendix I, and as long as the pipes are kept free from debris and dirt any water underneath the tank should drain via the leak...
We are currently designing a number of tanks in Asia which store chemicals that require to be kept at temperatures equal to or below 15°C (60°F) to prevent polymerization of the stored products. Note that the average ambient temperature at this site is around 30°C (85°F).
To maintain product...
Thanks very much for your reply IFRs,
Could you explain a little why the risk is so high? (Looking at it from a purely structural point of view it seems that installing a "belly band" would add strength to the bottom strake).
I really want to understand why there is a maximum size limitation...
We are currently performing an assessment of a tank which has been repaired at some stage in the past using a lap patch that covers the full circumference of the first strake/course. The lap patch has been fillet welded directly to the floor projection and to the first strake. The height of the...
