Wich part of the AWS D.1.1. describes about butter procedures

"buttering" is not a prequalified scenario. You will have to write a procedure and perform a welding procedure qualification in accordance with section 7. A WPS for buttering will be useless unless it is followed up with a WPQR (welding procedure qualification record).

    Mixing of welding processes/electrodes

I am not 100 percent sure that the first remark is not useless sarcasm. Like I previously stated I do work with D1.1, and I am familiar with what is contained within that code. I already figured that a WPS could be written to support such combinations that is why I even included a statement...

    Mixing of welding processes/electrodes

I am a CWI working under AWS D1.1 almost %100 of the time and I have a question. Is there anywhere in the code that directly prohibits the use of both SMAW E7018 and FCAW E71T-8 electrodes to compile the same weld? A contractor is proposing to tack weld with E7018 and complete final welding with...

WT Reinforcement on Existing W beam

I am a CWI currently on a project where the only thing taking place is the installation of a WT section to the bottom flange of an existing beam. While I know this is a useful form of reinforcing an existing building I was curious about one thing. Could the heat input caused by welding the web...

    Rebar Welding Code Application

short but sweet, I'll take it.

    Rebar Welding Code Application

I am a AWS CWI and I often have to debate code issues on job sites. This one seems like a pretty straight foreward issue to me but I was surprised by the amount of opposition, even when I called the project engineer. Here it goes. There is ASTM A706 rebar that is called out to be welded to some...

    skewed tee joints.

So is it safe to say that (2) 1/4" fillet welds in a skewed tee joint would NOT effectively take the place of (2) 1/4" single bevel PJP's?

    skewed tee joints.

On my job I have skewed shear plates connecting to embed plates. There are 2 skeed connections and 1 transverse connection all occurring at roughly the same location. At this congested point could a fillet weld on either side of the skewed shear plate take place of a partial joint penetration...

Radius or flush ends of moment connections.

I am somewhat of a newcomer to the field and have a question. Is it a good practice to radius/transition the sides of the top and bottom flanges in a Tee Joint moment connection, or finish the joint flush with the ends of the flanges? Either way would be done by grinding weld run off.
