    Explosion Protection Method for Equipment

Thanks Marmite, but info shown on that web page does not answer my question. Regards, rinezry

    Explosion Protection Method for Equipment

Was wondering whether anyone can tell me whether there's any difference between an equipment that is marked EEx de and an equipment that is marked EEx ed? Thanks.

    NFPA 110/37 Compliance??

Hi there, was wondering whether anyone can help me out with this issue. We're trying to procure a 60Hz 250kW Caterpillar diesel generator to be used as an essential generator on an onshore oil and gas plant. The client is requesting that the generator complies with NFPA 110/37. We're having...

Recommend an MV motor supplier please?

Hi all, thanks for the responses you've been providing me. Anyway, just so you know, we've gone for a VSD with an LSE motor that has a starting current of 3.5FLC. Such a waste of money considering the fact that we'll only use the softstart/bypass function of the VSD and nothing else, but like...

Recommend an MV motor supplier please?

I know I mentioned 3.5 times earlier, but DOL is out of the question and softstarter can get starting current down to less than 2.5 times. Tried convincing the client, but they're adamant about it. They're willing to pay for it, so I don't want to say anything more.

Recommend an MV motor supplier please?

jraef .... with a softstarter, you're reducing the voltage, hence motor torque is lower, hence takes motor longer to start, hence we have to review protection settings on the plant to incorporate this so that any overload doesn't trip during this time etc. Plus, the vendors we're talking to...

Recommend an MV motor supplier please?

Thanks guys. LSE do offer motors with relatively low starting current. All I need to do now is convince the client that DOL is the best option cause they don't really trust the existing generators (>20yrs old) that will supply power to the compressor eventhough motor starting studies show that...

Recommend an MV motor supplier please?

Hi there, was wondering whether anyone can point me to a manufacturer who can possibly supply a 2500hp 4kV motor? It'll drive a booster compressor for low pressure sour gas. Due to a weak power system, there's a possibility of using a soft starter for this motor, but if I can find a motor...

    Transformer K-Factor

Thanks for that info. Buying a couple of US-spec tfmrs for an offshore platform and the tfmr vendor's asking me what's the k-factor I want to use for the tfmrs. I reckon I can do away with k-1 or k-4 because 80% of loads are motors, but I reckon I should forward a copy of the load list to...

    Transformer K-Factor

Hi, was wondering if anyone can answer my question. Is the k-factor for transformers applicable for dry type tfmrs only or do you have to consider it for liquid filled ones as well?

    Motor Space Heaters

Thanks for the info; is it stated in a standard (IEC, ANSI, API?) somewhere, or is it just a rule of thumb that people use?

    Motor Space Heaters

While reading through a client's spec recently, I came across the statement "anti-condensation heaters shall be rated at 240Vac but operated at 120Vac". Does anyone know how/where this statement came about and what are the reasons? Cheers.

    Thanks for that jgchrist/dpc.

    Minimum conductor size formula

All of you are probably familiar with the formula S = I x sqrt(t)/k used to determine the minimum conductor size in mm2. What factor do you put in to get it in American size (AWG/kcmil)? I tried looking at the NEC but couldn't find anything, and the only way I can think of is to use a...

Dual Contactors for Hydrocarbon Heater Circuits

I was reading a project spec and came across a requirement for dual contactors for hydrocarbon heater circuits. Can anyone tell me why this is required and whether it is covered in any standards, ie ANSI, IEE, BS?
