Explosion Protection Method for Equipment

Was wondering whether anyone can tell me whether there's any difference between an equipment that is marked EEx de and an equipment that is marked EEx ed?

IEC 60079-0, General Requirements (

states in section 29.3 that when multiple types of protection are used, the letters are to be listed alphabetically. If I recall, it used to be the primary type of protections was listed first. The European standard may be similar.
