My understanding and it is our practice of API 6D is that the NDE is optional unless specified by the Purchaser. The para. you are referring to basically specifies time and material state of the tests. Therefore, if MT/PT or UT is specified, they shall be performed after the material is heat...
In terms of hardness, as long as you choose the same material grade equivalent of 13%Cr, I don't think there is a difference in your case. A216 WCB + 13Cr means wedge material is A216 WCB with 13Cr overlay on the seating surface (the contact areas against the seat ring). And BVMan, there is...
Ball valves are not designed for partial operation!! Not even the metal seated, it is intended for fully open/closed position. For soft seated valves, the seats will be damaged easily.

I don't agree with @wornandwound, Trim 8 should be a combination trim, the seating surface should be 13% on one side, and Hardfacing on the otherside. For gate valve NPS 2 and above, the most common selection is:
Wedge material: A216 WCB + 13Cr
Seat material: A105 + Stellite 6
Of course, you...
PMRC MAR GS/105 and GS/106 are PETRONAS technical standards, which are additional requirements to ASTM F2168 and F2191 for graphite packing materials.

Hi bcd,
thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it. The standard specified is ASME B16.34 for design. Now everything comes down to one question: is it acceptable to use the minimum bore size of a 12" valve for a 14" valve?
James Chan
fangl40 is right, the ASME B16.34 specifies Pressure-Temperature ratings. The test pressure for shell test is 1.5 times of max allowable working pressure under room temp which is -29 to 38C. Different material group has slightly different working pressure even under different temperature.
James...
thank you bcd for the explanation. Regarding FB and RB on gate globe and check valves, i am still not sure if it applies. If so then it is acceptable to have a 12 inches valve's flow passage with 14 inches valve's end connection, plus appying the relationship.
I have been trying to find out more...
Hi Guys! I am having a hard time understanding the description in ASME B16.34.
We placed an order for 14" Cl 2500 BW gate valve, in the order, it does not specify RB or FB, now the manufacturer considered it as reduced port (12" Port), so the valve has a 14" ID on end connections and 12" ID of...
I think an ITP or specifically quality plan is like a responsibility distribution sheet where you will see who does what. In most cases, it is to avoid confusion and over jurisdiction on some steps or procedures. Just my understanding.
