I remember in school a professor told me if you go at it from the start saying 50+ hrs/wk is unacceptable that sets a precedence. If you are ok working extra they're ok asking you to.
I couldn't do 60+ hrs, I work to live not the other way around.
JSteve2 -- You might be right about factory N/A car's but when it comes to Forced Induction your just wrong, especially when it comes to ECU controlled boost on factory turbo'd cars (my world).
Evo 8,9, 10 -- +15-20% hp
STI -- +10-15% hp
SRT-4 -- +5-10% hp
These power gains are from flash...
Matt, love your ample use of big words defining special processes to skirt around the real subject of OEM final tunes are not optimum for "performance"
Yes, OEMs have magical sensors and test process I have no clue about. Underlying code within the ECU is quite amazing and something I cant...
Wow Matt, way to sound like an OEM elitist.
OEMs need to make vehicles thatll survive 200k+ miles these days. With A/F rations deep in the 9.x:1 range and timing values extremely conservative, there is a lot of power to be had by getting rid of some of that safety factor.
And while yes, we...
Cars generally have different tuning software packages if any at all. While there are generic tuning books about tuning, each car will be different in their tolerance for spark advance, A/F ratio, rev limit, boost limit, etc. based on things like port and combustion chamber design, head flow...
If you're looking for an engineer willing to work for pennies on the dollar, long thank-less hours, and no family preventing copious amounts of travel... Look no further.
Are you guys mostly doing Chassis and Aero design and farming out Engine and Suspension?
I'd say you're in a great place right now. You're getting to see all the errors in engineering, fabrication, assembly, etc.. Seeing all these will only help later when you are designing and it will definitely help prevent you from creating poor designs.
Engineers rarely seem to stay at their...
Army engineers (for enlisted) are glorified construction workers and officers are merely supervisors.
Don't take my word on this, but Air force and Navy officers actually function somewhat like engineers, but soon move to more of a managerial position working with civilians.
Air force...
In my limited experience a good BSer can put the information out there for other non-techies to understand. Its what makes a good BSer..
It doesn't matter how smart you are in your field if you cant explain your part to a group or in a meeting people are going to shut down just waiting for that...
