Accuracy of Flexible Shafts in Motion Transmittion

My experience with the schmidt style coupling was in a lab setting with high torque, high rpm, short duration, impact loading. In that application it survived through our entire project - including the "calibration" phase where we crashed the platen in the table - but it really was only used...

Macro to Save, Print, and Close file

Are you trying to save, print, and close the Excel workbook or another file (such as a text file)?

    Machining Solid Carbide

Thanks for the detailed response HGMorgan. While some of that information is available in bits and pieces elsewhere - you brought it together succinctly.

    Rack and Pinion

I think google is your friend on this one: http://members.tripod.com/kenoh_5/8.htm Remember, rack and pinion is still a gear system - larger pitch diameter means more motion per rotation with lower force. So - the motor you want to use and the weight you want to lift will determine the pinion...

    gear presure angle

Hmm... I've never seen VCD on a customer print, but without any more information I would be looking into VCD = variable center distance. 14.5° is probably the theoretical/manufactured pressure angle, from there the operating pressure angle would depend on the center distance between the two...

    Machining Solid Carbide

Thanks for the replies. Luckily the taper angle and gage diameter are correct, it's just too long - so we don't have to regrind the entire taper. The basic method of making the center pilot deeper, then wiring to length, then recentering was our original thought - but most of the suppliers we...

    Machining Solid Carbide

So, I made a critical error on specifying some cutting tools and now we have 30 solid carbide tools that have a taper that is 0.334" too long for our customer's machine. While the interim solution is to use adapters to make them work for now, long term that is not something we would want out in...

Potentially daft question on worms and wormgears

I realize it has been a while, but I just came across this today. Another option would be to skip the intermediate gears and make the input a face gear: http://swissgears.com/en/index.cfm/treeID/411 Then you would have the input connected directly to the first output in mesh with the second...
