ANSYS & HYPERMESH (export iges format)

You can not have a proper geometry back from FEA model. Thought, you can extract 2D elements off the 3D element surfaces and then can have crude representation of geometry for comparison sake. (I'm an Abaqus user but I'm pretty sure it works same for Ansys as well). A question: Why you want to...

how to connect a solid to a shell surface? not to the edge?

Several ways: 1.You could just merge nodes, but that would be connecting edge of a shell part with solid part. 2.Standard practice is to embed two rows of shell elements into the solid, a) either by giving very small thickness or b) same thickness. 3.If there is a weld or other kind of...

How to make a component rigid in Hypermesh?

First of all it depends on what you want to do and what solver you are using? Hypermesh is just an interface to help you with that. Secondly, I only know Abaqus as a solver so I can help you out with that. Write some more details.

Contact definition between rigid parts and/or deformable parts

Agree with rb1957 and IceBreakerSours. Follow these general guidelines for Slave/Master and you should be fine: 1. Coarser (mesh)-stiffer should be master. 2. Rigid must be master. Try it.

Problem with Simulink - If block

I was expecting two scopes to be inverse of each other. So as LiteYear suggested if you merge this two scopes you should get a constant ( in this case 1) output. My guess is, you need to add something to refresh the else trigger, I could be totally off!

How to make the group of elements in hypermesh?

If you want to move/copy elements to new component: - Create a comopnent collector. - Go to organise panel (or Shift+F11) - Select elements and move to 'dest' component. If you want create a element set: - Go to Analysis --> Entity Set - Give a name for Element set - Pick 'elem' from drop down...

    FE representation of connectors.

Hi all, I'm new to Full-body/BIW FEA (have done FEA on other components before) and have observed at-least three different customers with little variation in their FE representation of connectors, most commonly I have seen following: Spot/Seam weld: RBE3-Hexa-RBE3 ( ACM2 model)...

add mesh informations in the inp file

You need to repharse everything, can't understand a word! - If you want mesh information on .imp file than everything is there. - Do you have access to any kind of GUI ?( Hypermesh/AbaqusCAE etc)

Career growth for an FEA engineer.

Thanks everyone. Moving into defense is not an option for me as of now because of security clearance and all. The problem with automotive industry is it's too unstable. 'Glory' etc does not feature in my wish list. What I want in life is to have good time at work for as long as I work and earn...

Career growth for an FEA engineer.

Thanks everyone. Greg, it's kind of scary to think that there is not clear career path for FEA engineers, After all everyone wants to grow and earn more money as needs are also going to change over the time( wedding and kids and house and blah balh!) Secondly, I've noticed that managers are...

Career growth for an FEA engineer.

I have been working as an Analysis Engineer for little over 4 years now. All this experience is in Automotive/heavy machinery domain. Even though I like what I do, it feels very monotonous now, I often wonder what upward direction I can take from here. Any suggestions regarding...

    hm models for educational pupose

Look carefully. In the turotials Altair must have provided path to the directory. Soemthing like this: C:\Altair\hw10.1\tutorials\hm\interfaces\lsdyna

    connectors

Did you go through HM tutorials? if not please do it, it's very simple, will take half hour(connector tutorial, 10 mins for bolt tutorial) and does exactly the same thing which you are asking. C:\Altair\hw10.1\help\hm\hmbat.htm Bascially, go to HM help on your dirve and Hypermesh > Hypermesh...

How to get around algebraic loop issue ?

Sorry !! Didn't read your reply carefully. I've limitation over mass, can not increase to any value. I have set of values which are in constant units and does not have much room to play around with those numbers. It would be great if you can explain what is exactly happening here, and what care...

How to get around algebraic loop issue ?

Thanks Fe, I'm doing a Vehicle Dynamics simulation, which basically calculates slip angle and feed again to calculate new one. If you wish I could give some more details ( I've attached my model the first time) Let me know. Need help ASAP :) Thanks. -Prebasha

How to get around algebraic loop issue ?

Hi all, I'm not a power user of Simulink but have started using it for a while now. I'm doing a Vehicle Dynamics simulation and stuck with an algebraic loop issue. I have so far tried following things : 1) Reducing step size. 2) Tightening error. 3) Unit delay and memory block ( though I doubt...
