    Elevated Temperature Epoxy

There are also the Cyanate ester resins that can withstand high temp. (I don't know their UV sensibiltity) TenCate is supplying a lot of different grades of resins. They have also a selector guide (see link)...

    Specific Heat calculations

I meant the result given by a scale, not what it actually "measure". I think scales with springs are measuring forces (weight), balances are giving the equilibrium between two torques (force x distance), and piezo-electrics scale are measuring a pressure (force / surface)... Isn't it? In all...

    Specific Heat calculations

The Cp is in Btu/lbm*°F in imperial and in J/g*K Q= Mass * Cp * delta T Dimensions: [BTU] = [Lbm] * [Btu/(lbm*°F)]* [°F] [Lb m] is a mass (equivalent to grams; given by a scale) [Lb f] is a force (equivalent to Newtons; Weight= Mass* Gravitity constant) [Lbf] = [Lbm]*32.174 ft/s^2 [Troll] Use...

    EMI shielding in Space

    Thanks, I'll start with that!

How to create voids PURPOSELY to test for NDT

If you want to do a "heat" picture of the composite, inserting a strip of polymer (Teflon...) will disturb the heat flow differently than delamination with no foreign object of the "real world", so may be the release agent is better (if it's working of course).

    EMI shielding in Space

Hi all, I would like to know more about EMI Shielding. - What are the main parameters of an electromagnetic wave (frequency/wave length, ...)? - What are the typical EM waves received by a space satellite? - How to calculate the thickness of the shielding? - The perimeters of holes in the...

Good practices for best structural properties w/o autoclave (???)

Do you have testing equipment to test the quality of the composite? Are you using the wet-layup technique or vacuum infusing?

Removing Cured Polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) From Nitinol Rods

Hi, It seems that PVP solvents are Polar ones(like water,Ethanol, Methanol, IPA...). Did you tried another of these solvents (in ultrasonic bath too)? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solvent#Solvent_classifications>solvent classification>Polar solvent

    Composite coating

Hi, I would like to know if a vapor coating of a composite (carbon-epoxy) with a metal, could improve the thermal conductivity? The composite skins are bonded to honeycomb core with an epoxy adhesive. So I'm not sure if a coating could increase the heat exchange rate or if it only add a new...

Good practices for best structural properties w/o autoclave (???)

As said before, if you just want to add dead weight on top of your vacuum bag you will have to put a lot. On a foot square flat panel you have to add around 5700 lbs to match 3 bar (44 psi) of autoclave overpressure. If you have a press (or even better a hot press)it can be done. I did panel...

    Polycarbonate assembly

Hi, I am going to make a vacuum chamber out of 5 polycarbonate plates (500x500mm) and a removable top plate (600x600mm). To assemble the 5 plates, is it better to use screws, adhesive/glue or solvent? With the screws there is the probleme of notch sensitivity. With the glue, which one is good...

Has any one worked with Zylon?

Hi, Did you looked at the Cyanate ester resin? It is thermosets and high temp (don't know about abrasion or impact resistance. Maybe it is complying to your requirements. TenCate is supplying this resin, they are supplying resin for vartm/infusion and prepreg.

Pinholes in surface after resin infusion

Is it possible that it is due to a gel time too long? After infusion of the fibers the inlet is clamped; then the vacuum is still pulling the resin out of the fibers and thus creating little dry spots or void bubbles?

    Pitch dry fiber UD

I need a small quantity (some square meter). So yes I am thinking to do it in-house with the winding machine. But I also wondering what solution I have to bond the fibers to be able to handle them ( I have to lay them flat). Simple tape at the edge, binder that dissolve in the epoxy...?

    Pitch dry fiber UD

Hi all, I am looking for a Unidirectional fabric of pitch fibers (Dialead K13C or D, NGF YS-80 or 90). It is for a thermal conductivity improvement study of CFRP. Do you know who can supply this fabric? Thanks
