Pitch dry fiber UD 1

Hi all,

I am looking for a Unidirectional fabric of pitch fibers (Dialead K13C or D, NGF YS-80 or 90).
It is for a thermal conductivity improvement study of CFRP.

Do you know who can supply this fabric?

How many sq. ft. do you need? That will determine if this is a laboratory project where you drum-wind tape from a single spool, or you get a manufacturer to set-up a whole creel load. You will not find what you want as an off-the shelf product, so just Google unidirectional fabric and call vendors.

I need a small quantity (some square meter).
So yes I am thinking to do it in-house with the winding machine. But I also wondering what solution I have to bond the fibers to be able to handle them ( I have to lay them flat).
Simple tape at the edge, binder that dissolve in the epoxy...?

It depends on what you will do with it next. One way is to use a solid resin that is compatible with your matrix resin and pulverize into a powder about as coarse as table salt. Use a kitchen type sifter to lightly sprinkle the powder onto a sheet of plastic film or release paper. Then use a heat lamp to sinter the powder enough to stick to the film. Wrap the fiber on this film and use heat to stick the fibers in place. Ideally, the powder is your matrix resin. This works well for most BMI resins.

There is also a heat fusible scrim available at sewing shops, that is designed to iron onto fabrics to stabilize them. This works well if your end use temperature is not very high.
