    USAS Y14.5-66 MMC Implied????

Thank you for your reply, I would love to be able to use the 1973 version of Y14.5, but I have a part being checked where a hole is barely out and having MMC would make it good. The print was designed around USAS Y14.5-66 (what ever that is) and Just need to know if MMC was implied back then. I...

    USAS Y14.5-66 MMC Implied????

I have this print that calls out Dimensions and Tolerances per USAS Y14.5-66. I cannot locate this in all my attempts to search the internet. Does anyone know what this spec may be, and if this spec implies MMC on holes? Thanks.

Thanks for the advise....and its a decent price too.[bigsmile]

Calculating True Involute Form Diam Help

I think I might have figured it out. If its using the dedendum change to calculate a new dedendum constant, than I guess I got it. If thats not it....I await a responce.

Calculating True Involute Form Diam Help

I am looking to find a formula to calculate TIF. I am requested show TIF on a report for a bunch of gears we cut. We have software that when you enter the measured data(MOW, root, major, etc) it will display all sorts of wonderful data. The problem is having to do this for so many parts, and...

    Wire Contact Diameter?

Thanks for the Tip. I purchased the book and like the formulas in it. It gives nice basics and how other formulas are developed.

Modified Gear O.D. Calculation / Confusion

Ok, I think I am on the verge of understanding some of this. Please let me know if I am dead on, close, or not even in the same state. So im reading more on differences between backlash and tooth thickness, and I think I had one of them headaches with pictures.....you know, an thought. So for...

    Wire Contact Diameter?

Hi, Im at it again trying to find more info on measuring gears. Im looking all over and cant find info on getting the wire contact diameter when measuring over wires. I know the WireSeries / DP gets you a good size, but at what diameter does this actually contact at, and how is this contact...

Modified Gear O.D. Calculation / Confusion

Thank you all for your work in helping me get through this. Based on all the responses it seems my original calculation of 1.213 was closest. I'm not sure why the program we use would give a value so high, and I'm not the designer so I cant say why they would want the O.D. to be even higher. But...

Modified Gear O.D. Calculation / Confusion

Im not sure I am fully understanding my problem. When looking over a bunch of specs, I cant seem to find a formula for the OD. So is the OD "ALWAYS" the distance from the working pitch plus the addendum? For all these formulas for change in addendum , can I just add that to the working pitch?

Modified Gear O.D. Calculation / Confusion

Can you double check that formula you posted? I tried to use it and got nowhere close to what you stated. But it seems the first (Profile shift) formula you gave is very similar to what I had posted. Perhaps some parenthesis were omitted by mistake. It seems you have reached the same size O.D...

Calculating External Spur Gear Inspection Data

Hey, BCobra, if your interested, and have a TI89 Calc, I can send you the program I wrote for that. It may be of some help. It asks for Internal and External, Helix, Backlash, Tooth thinning or increasing, and spits out MOW. Or you can give it Test Radius and it gives MOW, or you can give it...

Modified Gear O.D. Calculation / Confusion

A while back I was asking questions about calculating MOW from a given test radius. Thanks to "mfgenggear" I was able to put that into a nice TI89 calc prog that people at my shop use often. Now I am back wanting to add some more info to its output. I have hit a snag. Mostly because I am still...

    Gear test radius question?

Thanks for the info on the radians. I know the tan(a)-a formula well, just wasnt sure what that curved line symbol was. Thanks. I must have been doing something wrong in my calculation with the Second formulas that use the involute function. Even after you gave the rest of what was needed, I...

    Gear test radius question?

I guess I'm a bit at a lose. I tried the formulas given in that post you gave: http://files.engineering.com/getfile.aspx?folder=7836da6e-8bf0-4b7e-9510-4101d33f70f1&file=TestRadiusToCttCalc.pdf But I cant seem to reproduce your results. I dont know where my error is. Tangent PA Formula: TTstd...

gear creation on CNC !! (from dwg)

I work at a machine shop that specializes in cutting gears and one particular gear was cut by me on a cnc. We actually had a attachment though that could hold a hob. So I guess in a way we just turned the cnc into a gear machine. The last place i worked they tried to cut a 15 inch O.D. aprox...

    Gear test radius question?

Ok, so here is one we have at work. Test radius = .2123/.2109 Wire Size = .02 AGMA Class = 9 Pressure Angle = 20 Number Of Teeth = 42 Diametral Pitch = 96 Pitch Diameter = .4375 Based on the calcs, i came up with a MOW = .4581/.4553 Is that correct?
