Residential Gas pipe service size - New York City

I have a client that wants to add an outdoor fireplace and BBQ Grill on a 4th floor balcony. There is an existing 1" gas riser with a 3/4" tee off for the condo. To add a fire place ad BBQ grill (plus the existing range) will require a 1" gas line. Is it allowed to install a 1" pipe...

I have been asked to perform take-offs for a proposed church in New Jersey as soon as the approved shop drawings are returned to the contractor for the engineer of record. I have produced shopdrawings several times but my main experienceis in the design engineering side however,I never...

    shop drawings standard procedures

Thank you PEDARRIN2. What I am looking for is a summary of who is responsible for what. I have seen somewhere, I believe its an AIA standard or requirement on what is included in the project package to successfully prepare shop drawings and who's responsibility it is to provide them. I am doing...

PE limits for sign/seal on projects out of their fields

Ron, Thank you for your much appreciated responses. The problem I have is that I am a local chapters' VP elect and founding member of a professional engineering society. However, so is the person in question. How do I or anyone proceed in this perdicament? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

PE limits for sign/seal on projects out of their fields

Thank you all. I agree with all of the responses however, the biggest concern lies within Ron's reply regarding the "design defect" issue. If there is a design defect in fire sprinkler system design, it is then too late. Is ones professional registration an even trade for ones life? I believe not.

PE limits for sign/seal on projects out of their fields

Is it me or is the PE designation heading for a catastroghy. I am asking for feedback on the issue when PE's sign/seal documents on systems in an industry they know nothing about. My latest encounter to this issue was where a PE and PMP whose main fortay was inspecting the stress in screws for...

Dry pipe sprinkler system design without flow test

SprinklerDesigner2, Thanks again. As the title of this post states, this is a dry pipe system. I totally agree with your reply. I also considered the ESFR K25 at first. The 6" main was based on the slim possibility that in-rack sprinklers can be eliminated but all roads seem to be applying to...

Dry pipe sprinkler system design without flow test

Thanks. My concern at the moment is that I told to lay all equipment out in an 8'-0" x 8'-0" sprinkler room which must contain the DCDA, dry pipe valve and accessories, duplex air compressor and accessories, etc which is not going to fit regardless of the compressor size. But it would help to...

Dry pipe sprinkler system design without flow test

SprinklerDesigner2, Thank you very much. You would not believe the hassle it is to explain to my client that a flow test is a must. It took approx. 2 weeks to have them understand that this is not a basic sprinkler layout. I can't even have them realize that a 8'x8' spk room will not even come...

Fire Sprinkler System (Wet) and Rooftop Manifolds

You see CDAFD, that's what is bugging me. The town of the project happens to be one of those AHJ's that make teir own requirements. The fire marshal is very stringent in addition of making contact to inquire. NFPA 14 or any other code for that matter is not to specific if it mentions it at all...

Fire Sprinkler System (Wet) and Rooftop Manifolds

In a fully sprinklered medical office bldg. 2-stories with roof access via roof hatch in stairwell, is a roof manifold required? NFPA 14 states the requirement for fire standpipe and combined standpipes, but is a roof manifold ever installed on a wet auto. sprk. system? NY State jurisdiction...
