Im working on a job where bituminous wearing course is failing, perhaps due to thermal movement, on the roof of a shopping centre / mall. There is a bituminous wearing course, underlain by a membrane, over the top of a structural concrete slab. The site is in Western Australia but there may be...

Hi guys.
Im doing some work on retrofitting of 70 warehouses - new roof enslosures & roof mounted plant.
Im going through the process of capacity checks on existing purlins - vary from site to site.
I need table of properties for them - much like we would use for normal heavier steel...
I know where you are coming from Ron. I have a lot of experience in the precast industry and have seen the same staining from moulds left exposed outdoors when not in use.
Unfortunately the survey we have been commissioned to undertake allows for only walk-through and overview style reporting...
Dik, Thats as close a picture as I have. The soffit pictured was about 5m over head and only a walk through survey for now.
It's most strange that, given the location and proximity to the ocean, all external concrete was not specified with some kind of coating. I remember once reading, or...
Hello guys.
These slabs they are externally exposed in a soffit of a loading dock in a chopping centre, around 3km (approx 2 miles) from the Indian Ocean.

could you not remove formwork and use temporary propping within the vault to allow back filling to begin. Again it depends on your access, but if you have room to remove formwork within the vault @ 80% strength (likely 7-10 days if proper curing achieved) demould/strike formwork and prop.
When...

How do you normally account for pigments in concrete mix design?
Here is my problem. I am working on a project to increase the durability of products manufactured by a precast company. They are having major problems with freeze thaw durability of concrete flags.
To overcome this I am proposing...

Hokie66 its an emerging technology it the late stages of reserach and development for bridge deck use. It has been used in some buildings in corrosive environments, but does require stringent site supervision to ensure proper placement.
Thanks Ron
That is an excellent suggestion. I will have to...
Does anyone know of a non destructive method for the detection of Basalt reinforcing bar in bridge deck slabs?
Have tried with GPR with no success.
Obviously standard NDT methods such as resistivity or magnetic will not work....
Have contacted several basalt rebar manufacturers who were unable...
