12.5% Mill Undertolerance 1

Hi,

I understand that the pipe wall thickness at maximum mill under tolerance is considered at 12.5%.

Where can I find this information in the ASME code book ? UG-16(d) says "The manufacturing undertolerances are given in the several pipe and tube specs listed in the applicable tables in SubSection C"

I am unable to find the table of paragraph that actually mentions that the undertolerance in 12.5%.

The wall thickness tolerances are listed in the ASTM and API specifications.

Theyre in the relevant material standard.
Refer to e.g. ASTM A312 (or ASME SA312 in sect II-A) for details, when you have stainless steel pipe.

Look in the material specs, Sec 2.
It is either in the product spec SA312, or in the general spec that it references SA530 (as an example).
You may need both specs.

The pipe we have is a 6" SA-53 Grade B Type E pipe.

Hi Kelvigal-

You'll find the wall thickness tolerance for SA-53 in Section II Part A 2013 under SA-53 / SA53M in paragraph 12.3 (page 167 of the print version, page 217 of the pdf).

Note that tolerances on weight and diameter are the other sub-paragraphs of paragraph 12.

Pipe dimensions are given in ASME B36.10 (diameter and weights)
Permissible variation in dimensions are given in applicable specifications
For example Clause 12.3 of SA-53 or clause 16.3 of SA-106
