I have a 460 volt 3 phase motor with 12 leads. 4to6, 5to8 & 6to9. When I do a continuity check with all the other leads unhooked I get continuity across 1 & 10. Nothing on the other leads. Is this a good reading?

If a NEMA motor, the continuity pairing is 1-4,2-5,3-6,7-10,8-11, 9-12. If IEC, then U1-U2, V1-V2, W1-W2, U5-U6, V5-V6, W5-W6. That from the Pocket Elect. Eng. Handbook.

There are other 12 lead motors. Wye-Delta can be 12 lead and, if I'm not mistaken, some part-winding motors are also 12 lead.

lhmida;
Is there a typo in your first post? You have 4-6, but 4-7 is a standard connection and in sequence with 5-8 and 6-9.

Yes correct, my error. It is 4-7. Thanks for correcting that. We megged out the motor today and hooked it up. It works fine.
