125x50x2.5 RHS?

I've just measured onsite a 125x50 RHS section. Does anyone have any information on these as it must be a section size before my time or simply a rare one, maybe imported?
My approach at present would be to assume grade 250, or is this too conservative.

You sure it's not a 127x52 imperial section? They were common back in the day.

If you have a construction date it's fairly easy to get an accurate bead on the likely strength based on historic steel standards

Apparently 127x52 sections are still available - but only as a special order. They are listed in the AustubeMills Product Availability Guide.

Are you sure it is steel. 125 x 50 is available in aluminium.

Yes, I forgot about the 127x52 sections. Speaking to local fabricator he believes they would of been Grade 350.
Aluminium? thanks for the heads up Hokie, I will do due diligence to confirm.

Currently they would most likely be grade C350L0, but if they are older imperial sections (AS A1, Table 11) then they may have been formed from AS A149 plate, which has a minimum specified yield strength of around 247 MPa.

The 1974 edition of the AISC Safe Load Tables notes RHS & SHS as 250 Grade steel, CHS as 200 Grade.
